    Default beer names/sexism

A beer question, as I was out drinking in the Black Country on Friday. I tried Holdens Feeder Wench & it got me thinking about beer names. Having previously lived in Stafford, and tried Slaters Top Totty, is real ale too much designed towards blokes. Now, being from the Black Country, wench is a word used as slang, like bloke for a man. But it could also see how it could be taken as sexism. Is the real ale world still too manly!?

For women? Can't think of one. Can't say I'd be tempted by a pint of Hunky Henry (4.2%)...

I had a pint of Feeder Wench in the Jolly Collier in Oldbury - it was decent stuff - i think the real sexist one is Dizzy Blonde! Top Totty is at least praise!

It may have been mentioned before on the forums about brewers choosing silly descriptive names for their brews which in some quarters could cause offence. I suppose the need to create an eyecatching name for marketing reasons sometimes overrides commonsense and good taste.Judging by the number of charity tins for Breast Cancer in pubs and how many men are to be seen wearing the ribbon I think sexism in pubs is on the wane. Lets face it WAGS would not stand for it. Meanwhile lets try to keep our sense of humour.

BrewDog's Trashy Blond is also one to be ordered with care.

Names don't bother me at all. If I want the beer from a brewery I ask for it, even Wychwood doggy doodahs!

An interesting thread after it was announced that beer has been proven to contain female hormones.

Scientists discovered this in a recent experiment where they gave 15 pints of strong bitter in one evening to a cross section of men. The scientists observed that by the end of the experiment none of the men could drive and they were all talking complete drivel, so the conclusion was obvious.
