No pub, again! Best of the bottles Westerham's Audit Ale, a ruby coloured bruiser at 6.25%abv.Getting quite a taste for this. Never seen it on draught, though.

    I saw it here.
I wished I had given it a go instead of the Cumbrian 5 hop which was rubbish. I've a feeling I've seen it in another Spoons but can't remember which one.

Wow! Rather surprised at that. What was it about it you didn't like? I've previously had it as a BOTW and I'm sure another forum user(s) has too.

Coincidentally, I've just read Tandleman's latest blog. Here's what he thinks.

I wonder if you had a duff pint?

Mr Alexander tried it in the Baum and I think he liked it so maybe that's what made the difference

PS whoops didn't see A&H had already ref'd it

Hawkshead Cumbrian 5 Hop was voted Beer Of The North West 2014 at the Manchester Beer Festival that I was judging at last month.

It just shows that Southerners don't know what good beer is.

The first time I tried the beer it WAS superb, which is why I went for it again in the WWE rather than the Westerham Audit. It was cloudy and tasted poor in the GBG listed WWE as did several Spoons pints I had after that hot spell in July, including ones tried in other GBG listed Spoons. I don't know how the Spoons guest ales are distributed nowadays, but the system clearly can't cope with hot weather. I've seen a Locale Brentwood beer delivered direct to the King's Ford so presumably those ones are delivered direct by the local brewers.

An interesting month with pub visits to Lincoln, Luton, Newark, Chesterfield and Amber Valley, as well as a few at home in Sheffield. Some excellent dark beers:

    Spire Ravenswood
    Blue Monkey Guerilla
    Hanlons Port Stout
    Batemans Winter Chocolate Biscuit

...but the one that stands out in the memory is Newby Wyke Black Squall in The Golden Eagle before the game at Lincoln (which was not so memorable).

Maybe this is why I always end up skint.

Westerhams best beer imo and I usually try it when I see it but the last 2 times I have had it it was poorly kept.Stick to the bottle version.

Hart Temptress tried in the only pub I visited this week, The Baum of course.

Brewed by a guy called John Smith, but it's definitely not smooth crap.
