A good week with a visit to Sussex and a couple of goes at the Spoons mini London Festival.

    Oakham JHB 3.8%
    Long Man Best 4.0%
    Harvey's Best 4.0%
    Portobello VPA 4.0%
    Belleville Northcote Blond 4.2%
    Blindmans Eclipse Porter 4.2%
London Fields Black Path Porter 4.2%
By The Horns Mayor of Garret 4.3%
    Harvey's Old 4.3%
    Long Man Old Man 4.3%
    Hop Stuff Pale Ale 4.5%
    The Cronx Nektar 4.5%
    Belleville Battersea Brownstone 4.8%
Long Man American Pale Ale 4.8%
By The Horns The Captain 5.0%
    Clarence & Frederick's Oatmilk Stout 5.0%
Clouded Minds Double Clout Coffee Stout 5.6%
    Adnam's / Stone Double IPA 8.5%
    Mikkeller Black 18 (Keykeg) 18.0%

The Mikkeller beer is just too silly to be beer of the week and the Double IPA would be a repeat so it's between two new micros that have really come on strong over the last year, Portobello and Clarence & Frederick. The Portobello VPA is a classic low ABV hop bomb style pale while the Clarence & Frederic's Oatmilk Stout is a rich strong stout. Both were served in top form at the Wanstead George for £2.29.

The C&F just edges it. When I first tasted their beer a year ago I was unimpressed, but since the spring or early summer I've had some classics from them including this one.

An interesting month with pub visits to Lincoln, Luton, Newark, Chesterfield and Amber Valley, as well as a few at home in Sheffield. Some excellent dark beers:

    Spire Ravenswood
    Blue Monkey Guerilla
    Hanlons Port Stout
    Batemans Winter Chocolate Biscuit

...but the one that stands out in the memory is Newby Wyke Black Squall in The Golden Eagle before the game at Lincoln (which was not so memorable).
