I did notice, via another thread, that Real Ale Ray has a special tactic to beat the randomiser - he duplicates his reviews (well, those of Mrs RAR)
other criteria - I would guess that that they also have to be of a certain length?

That is true, it updates the list of possibilities overnight. Otherwise the server load would slow down the whole site if people ever started playing the randomise new pub game!
