It boils down to a choice between the Brentwood Weald Porter and the Hopcraft Ta Moko Black IPA. The winner is the Ta Moko Black IPA at £2.60 in the Leyton King William IV. Their sister company's Pixie Spring Tidy Bitter was an outstanding boring brown bitter.

Obviously in the William IV! It's the second of theirs I've tried and this was better than the first but nothing special compared to Brodie's or Hopcraft. I know nothing about the brewer, I wasn't even aware that they were London based.
The best time to visit the William is at the weekend as the beer range can be poor mid-week, but they always seem to have loads of the overpriced keg stuff on.
I'm glad you vindicated my opinion of W&E Conqueror. I can't get enough of these black IPA beers.

I'm going with the flow this week by choosing Ilkley Lotus IPA.

It was a good decision to do an off piste swerve to The Botanist last Friday.

A high class establishment with some high class views available.

Apart from us of course who dragged the level downwards somewhat.

I also notice that BF has nicked my Jack Whitehall comment for his review.

Wow! Well you're in town enough LC, it's a short bus or a 0.8m walk down from Walthamstow; you sure that 2hrs didn't include a few jokers en route..?

No problem. I'll just slag you off (Northern terminology) for nicking it when I do my review.

due to work on the underground this was my route.
12mins walk to Kew bridge 5 mins wait for the bus to Gunnersbury 10 min journey then 5 mins wait for the train to Hackney central.50 minute journey then 5 minutes walk to catch a bus outside the Pembury 10 minute wait for bus then 15 mins on bus and a 3/4 minute walk from the bus stop. All times approx. And you know what I specifically went there for an ipa fest and I didn't think much of the 3 I tried. The Hopcraft beer I got was good though.cheers john

Yes, I think they try to put too many on during their periodic festivals; I've noticed the beers often don't seem ready, or cared-for. I'd swerve fests there for the time being, tbh.
What a mare of a journey!!
