    JW Lees Cora 3.9%
    Marston's Single Hop Wakatu 4.0%
    Brodie's Bethnal Green Bitter 4.0%*
Everard Cambridge Brewing Sgt Pepper 4.0%
    Moorhouse's White Mist 4.2%
Oakleaf Cream Of the Crop 4.2%
    Jennings World's Biggest Liar 4.3%
    Woodforde's Bure Gold 4.3%
    St Peter's Extra 4.4%
    Thwaites Half Nelson 4.5%
Wychwood 21st Amendment American Bitter Red 4.5%
Marston's Ballast Point Even Keel 4.5%*
    Maxim Ruby Max 4.5%
    Caledonian Ninkasi Cream Ale 4.5%

    Shepherd Neame Spooks Ale 4.7%
    Brodie's Old Street Pale 5.0%
    Adnams Barley Mow 5.0%
    Bateman's Fathead's Sunshine Daydream 5.0%
Adnams Stone Supremely Self-Conscious Black IPA 5.0%*
Shepherd Neame Terrapin Tree Hugger IPA 5.0%*
    Wadworth What The Fuggles 5.0%
Wadworth Abita Restoration Pale Ale 5.2%*
    Hook Norton Flagship 5.3%*
    Hopcraft Prince Of Bengal 5.4%
Innis & Gunn Toasted Oak IPA 5.6%
    Banks's Harpoon IPA 5.9%
    Batemans Hazelnut Brownie 6.3%*
Thwaites Elysian Avatar Jasmine IPA 6.3%
Dark Star Green Hopped IPA 6.4%*
Greene King The Abbot's Confession 8.5%*

The starred ones were the ones that I liked the best, but I'm a sucker for a Black IPA so that has to get the award. According to the Spoons booklet this one is made with seven different hops. Not one for the Boring Brown Bitter Brigade!!!

bOTW could have been magic Rock -blueberry ipa 6.0 in the Draft House Battersea on wed
or Siren -half mast 2.8 in the Nags Head Reading yesterday
but the bottle of Fullers -1966 strong ale last night was superb and will not be the last one I drink.
(this was last brewed to celebrate England,s world cup victory which being a Scotsman I found hard to swallow.Unlike this beer.)

Please don't throw things at me, but the most unexpectedly good beer / pub combination this week was the Greene King 1799 Porter at the newly refurbished Chequers in the Old Town part of Stevenage.

Haven't GK got an "experimental" brewery set up now, as clearly lots of other regionals do? It was only a Black IPA that stopped me voting their 8.5% Abbot's confession as BOTW. It was a dangerously drinkable brew compared to say Old Tom of a similar strength. I think the problem with GK mainstream beers is that they use the same mash for all of them and then adjust it afterwards which is why they all taste similar.

A very quiet week for the boozer but a few different bottled ales tried:

    Cask:
    Oakham Bishops Farwewell

    Bottled:
    Oakham Citra
North Cotswold Hung, Drawn 'n' Portered
    Fullers London Porter
    Dow Bridge Praetorian Porter
    Hart Green Hop

The Praetorian Porter was the best bottled porter I've tried shading the consistently good London Porter. BOTW was Hart Green Hop, at 5% it does exactly as it says and is another very good beer from a brewery which brews a few of those.

Fairly quiet week, with very little to set the pulse racing. Several beers were not quite at their best.

    Derventio - Cleopatra.
    Fernandes - Folklore.
    Fernandes - Simcoe.
    Blakemere - Fruit Stout.
    Ossett - American Gold.
    Colchester - Metropolis.
    Revolutions - E.P.
    Ilkley - Joshua Jane.
    Partners - Tabatha.
    Fernandes - Nelson IPA.
    Fernandes - Black Voodoo Stout.

Can't remember the last time I nominated a pale Ossett beer for BOTW, but the AG is really rather good. It actually tastes of something, thanks to the American hops. Very sessionable at 3.5%.
