I hear that the Champion Beer Of Britain is Elland 1872 Porter. I'm pretty sure that I've never tried this brewer but it's good to see a strong (6.5%) porter claim the prize. No doubt it will be impossible to find any at least until next year!

Being a big Darkstar fan and a southerner to boot ,I have to say the Elland belongs in the same company. A mighty fine beer.

The view from down south is that it's a nice brew though not as nice as Dark Star Genesis or Windsor & Eton 1075 :P

I think it's a fantastic beer, rich, complex and very satisfying. Having not tried Genesis or 1075 its impossible to establish a pecking order, but I think it's rather better than 'a nice brew'. I'd argue that it's one of those beers that has to be served in the northern style, with a tight creamy head, as with Old Peculier. One thing that concerns me is a potential dip in quality now that Elland have won the award. Certainly Rudgate Ruby Mild suffered for a good while when it was named CBOB. I rate all the dark beers from Elland pretty highly, so even if 1872 isn't available, others will be worth a punt. Unfortunately, I think the pale beers are a little bit more variable.

I had a Genesis last Saturday, and thought it was a dark bitter posing as a strong mild. It was very good but not outstanding. However, it did make it as a contender for BOTW but it was a good week.

I tend to agree, on one encounter. I'd definately try it again.

I have had over 25 beers from Elland but usually avoid them now as I did not enjoy many of them.The 1872 porter is very good and have drank it a couple of times but had to check that its 6.5.Dont remember it being that strong.
