Default people taking their own food into a pub

Some friends I meet with in a pub got us told off last night for bringing their own food in. While it was just a few people sharing bags of crisps, no one cared, but it was turning into a runniing buffet with two lads even bringing in their own sandwiches and pork pies. I was wondering when we’d get told off and it finally happened. How do folk here feel about taking food into a pub – especially one that sells its own food and snacks. Is it as bad as taking your own food to a restaurant? Arthur Chappell

Completely up to the pub. Surely you should ask first out of common courtesy. Some wet-led pubs don't mind, some even provide plates etc so that you can use the local takeaways as long as you buy a pint or three. But food-led pubs are a different matter - that's where they make their money - and I can't understand why anyone would even think of such a thing.

Nick pretty much sums it up.Sneaking your own fare into a pub that sells snacks and food is taking the proverbial.

It shouldn't done, my local is wet led but does do food 12.00-2.00 Mon - Sat , for an occasion food can be provided out of these hours. On the odd occasion a group off people have asked if they can bring some fish and chips into the beer garden out of food hours, to which on occasion the landlord has allowed albeit begrudgingly . But to just bring it in off the street is out off order in my book. Iv'e even seen a couple among a group visiting the pub most of whom purchased a drink from the bar, bring in a couple of Costa coffee's from over the road ,sitting in the pub to be with their friends without any intention of spending any money in the establishment but at the same time enjoying the facility's .Totally ignorant and totally out of order. So its a no from me.

I wouldn’t dream of taking food into a pub that I had purchased elsewhere. I have stood outside a pub many times to finish a sandwich/burger, but I would never take it in with me.

A few years ago I was in the Rutland Arms by Hammersmith Bridge when I received a phone call from a mate wondering where I had been for the last twenty minutes. I had walked out of the Blue Anchor to have my cigarette and then wandered into the Rutland Arms next door with my pint. Nobody in the pub noticed, but I got some stick from the lads for weeks after.

I am with the majority of replies, totally out of order.

I do know some pubs, no food except crisps, will allow take aways, but of course booze is expected to be purchased

Would the OP's mates even think of taking pasties bought in Asda into Mcdonald's?

Why not? Some people take in their horses, apparently.

"Greater Manchester police said:the sight and smell of this caused obvious distress and upset to customers trying to eat,as well as staff members"
I'm surprised they could tell the difference.
