Can't fault the Corner Pin, but the Plough is a much better pub than either the Salutation or the Cask Corner, IMHO. Or how about a brisk stroll across the bridge to the Three Horseshoes?

And three 'Spoons within walking distance? Why not save the walk and have three drinks in one 'Spoons? (Sorry, but I only go in a 'Spoons if there's nothing else available, and even then I'm usually disappointed.)

I'm a pub ticker so after being kicked out of the hotel at 10am I'll be making a beeline for the Spoons for breakfast and a couple of early beers before the proper pubs open!

If we get the 10.03 from Birmingham getting to Leeds 12.01 on one train it costs £74.10 for 2 returns or £68.60 for 4 singles.

    If we buy:
Off Peak Returns Birmingham to Derby
    Derby Wayfarer to Sheffield
Off Peak Returns Sheffield to Leeds

we can travel on the same train for £45.50 for the 2 of us.

Will pop into New Street tomorrow armed with times and fares and see how we get on.

Coach takes 3hrs, but, if you could cope with that Gill, megabus tickets are available at £1ew from Birmingham Hill St

    Hi Gill,

If you wait a while to book your tickets from Birmingham to Derby you should get them for £7.00 each way,i have just had a look for late September and these fares apply to the 9.30, 9.44 and 10.03, the same from Derby at 19.29, 1936, 1954 and 20.28, if you try too book for November now it will be almost full price.

The Derbyshire Wayfarer costs £5.80 for over 60s but you will have to buy this ticket from a library or train station within Derbyshire.

Thanks. I forgot about them. Having a look to check times. We used them to London once, and they caused an uproar on the way back as the loo wasn't working and it didn't want folk to use the loo in the services when they changed drivers, and some of them were carrying on to Edinburgh.

Apart from that they were fine.

I buy my Derby wayfarers half a dozen at a time from Matlock if I cannot get to library in Derby for them. Last lost cost me £5.55 each and still have a few years on them.

Checked Megabus and it is £13 each way, and we would have to leave Leeds at 18.20 as the bus after that would be a £15 taxi ride home.

I never seem to get these £1 tickets that others get on National Express either. Think it might be the train.

The Off Peak Return Birmingham to Derby for us is coming up as £10.25 each so ok.

Booked the day off , just trying to find the best value route , normal way would be Telford , Birmingham , Leeds , but Telford , Shrewsbury , Manchester , Leeds is coming up a bit cheaper and a bit quicker , will keep on looking .
