Red Rat looks like a foxily tinged boring brown beer. It isn't. Malty chocolate followed by a delicious bitter wallop, it punches above its 4.3%....
I have to confess that when Rat first started brewing I wasn't too keen. Early beers tasted a bit clunky, like home brew. However, they've certainly sorted out any teething problems and now I'll always try a Rat beer if it's on the pumps (another couple on this week's travels). With Red Rat, that lovely aromatic bitterness comes from dry hopping with Simcoe hops. Enjoy.

Decent week for me, managing a couple of short sessions. Tried this week:

    Black Sheep - Bitter.
    Sharps - Doombar.
    Fernandes - Triple OOO.
    Fernandes - Irish Stout.
    Fullers - Wild River.
    Fernandes - Octohop.
    Rat - Crazy Rat. (Keg)
    Rat - Spitzel Rat.
    Elland - Iconoclast.
Five Towns - Davy Jones' Locker.
    Five Towns - Solstice.
    Raw - Edge Pale Ale.
    Double Top - Nelson.
    Great Heck - Five.
    Fernandes - Best Mild.
    Fernandes - Folklore.
    Fernandes - Great Northern.

With honorable mentions for the Wild River, Five and Great Northern, this week's BOTW is Fernandes Octohop, which as the name suggests is a tasty blonde ale made with eight different hop varieties.

    Great knowledge A&H!
I gained some real ale brownie points for having heard of Rat and knowing that they were based in Huddersfield. Maybe I can sneak the Simcoe hops in before Red Rat runs out.

Red Rat seems to have gone down very well so, hopefully, we might see some more Rat beers in these parts.

A pretty quiet week for me with only 2 pubs visited although I did pop into The Baum 3 times.

BOTW is Dancing Duck dcuk which is an easy drinking pale beer with a bit of a hop finish.

Runner up is Black Jack The Pokies a great little beer for only 3.6%.

Hopefully a bit better this week with a visit to Knaresborough on Saturday hopefully to find Blind Jacks open this time.

A night in The Old Bell in Harrogate beckons as we spend our free 3 course meal voucher from Market Town Taverns courtesy of their M.D. Simon Midgley.
A pub is for life not just for Christmas
