It is madness and has always been the case. Some clearly do join just to submit a new pub or photo, or for that matter to send us corrections.

Most of them just sign up and do nothing though, I think I once worked out that only 1 in 5 new members actually ever contribute anything. I can only assume that the other 4 were expecting to get a free beer by signing up!

It may seem madness but that's the Pareto Principle applying exactly as predicted: that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. The same could be said of hangovers: "It wasn't the gallon of beer that did it, it was that Old Nadger Gobbler we had at the end".
