Really sorry to hear that. This is one of my favourite pubs anywhere, not just in York. The landlord's a really nice guy, and there's a proper pub atmosphere - very much a community local. Beer was always in good nick, although limited to the Marstons stable, of course. "May reopen with a focus on food" - good grief, just what York needs, eh.

And the company involved is Marston's. I don't believe York was part of their trading area in the old days. In North Wales they are selling up or letting the old Banks's and Burtonwood pubs rot away.
I was always a fan of Banks's beers but the pub company is a complete joke as even if you go into a Banks's branded pub it doesn't guarantee a pint of Banks's beer. They are said to be creating modern family friendly eating houses (aka expensive Spoons but with crap beer). I've completely lost faith in the company but haven't yet added them to my extensive AVOID list but unless there's a Banks's sign on the building I would be reluctant to bother.
