Tragic news and York Camra was trying to fight it but there's really not much they can do. I could be wrong but it looks like the end for the best pub in York.Originally Posted by hondo

That's sad news: I always tried to use this pub on my now infrequent visits to York

Though, if playing devil's advocate, the good bergers of York have a substantially better choice of alternatives than most towns or cities. Concern about whether the Blue Bell's locals will have anywhere else to meet and socialise may be rather exaggerated...
Basically there isn't another pub remotely like the Blue Bell anywhere in York city centre. Plenty of pubs of various types of course but between the yoof bars, the tourist traps, the crafties, the places up themselves, there's nowhere with the ambience, the beer range and quality, the cozy charm of the Blue Bell, the Ackhorne probably comes closest but lacks something.
