Ignoring my locals top five probably would be and in no particular order:

    The Blue Bell York
    The Bow Bar Edinburgh
    Falstaff Tavern Derby
    Kings Head Bristol
    Beacon Hotel Sedgley, nr Dudley

It's been a poor year for new pubs visited, so three of the five have been nominated before. However, I particularly enjoyed visiting the following:

    The Grayston Unity, Halifax.
    The Whalebone, Hull.
    The Beer Engine, Skipton.
    The Old Cock, Otley.
    Rat & Ratchet, Huddersfield.
'And where he supped the past lived still. And where he sipped the glass brimmed full' John Barleycorn, Carol Ann Duffy.

Some repeats here but, in no particular order, I thoroughly enjoyed:

    Harry's Bar, Wakefield
    Fernandes Brewery Tap, Wakefield
    The Grove, Huddersfield
    House of Trembling Madness, York
Craft Beer Co, Leather Lane, London

You wouldn't have to push me very hard to nominate Harry's Bar as Pub of the Year. It's a fantastic spot and we had a great evening there.

As luck would have it, I shall be in there tonight. Will raise a glass to you and BF, with something appropriate.

The review I've posted is a rehash of one that I submitted to TripAdvisor, so it is more food based than the guidelines of Pubs Galore will probably allow. There is still not much to offer real ale enthusiasts, but they do a lovely bottled bear which I can't remember the name of.

I wanted to include The Boat at Ashleworth Gloucester, but since the pub was featured in a list of best riverside pubs in one of the broadsheets last year, they seem to be attracting a rather different clientele!

Thanks. That seems suitably enthusiastic for one of your pubs of the year. I think those of us who favour real ale will already know there's none to be had here.

    Looks a good 'un.
