With the Spoons festival starting I extracted some extra beer tokens from the hole in the wall so I could get out more. Here is my list :-

    Cairngorm Black Gold 4.4%
    Everard's Terra Firma 4.5%
    Conwy Rampart 4.5%
    Tree Brewing Thirsty Beaver 5.0%
    Dark Star Winter Meltdown 5.0%
    Brodie's Citra Pale 5.0%
    Steenbrugge Blonde 6.0%
    Steenbrugge Dubbel Bruin 6.0%
    Brodie's Big Mofo Stout 10.5%

From this there are four contenders, Black Gold, Steenbrugge Blonde and the two Brodie's beers. The Black Gold is everyhing the over-priced, over-promoted and over-rated rubbish called Guinness should be and isn't. The Blonde is a Belgian beer that can be knocked back in pints rather than dinky little bottles. The Citra Pale is one of about half a dozen single hop pale ales. They are all very pale and very bitter, they drink like a cooking strength beer rather than a premium strength and this one was truly oustanding.

However, the Blonde was also outstanding and as a result just swings it, as much because it's a one-off as anything.

    Hi
I went to the SIBA festival at the Mercure Hotel, Manchester last night. Sampled some cracking stouts.

My overall favourite has to be one brewed by Burscough.

It was called BLACK CANON STOUT 4.5%

    East Kent

The Canterbury Brewers-Loco IPA: a wonderfully characterful mid brown session beer, a great deal of flavour for 3.9ABV.Deep hop pockets and some toffee.
The Canterbury Brewers: Street Light Porter-dark copper, coffee beans and a long herbaceous hop finish.Serious stuff. Unfortunately the Foundry Torpedo, which I've enjoyed as a bottle condtioned ale, and the Haka were unavailable.
    Canterbury Brewers-Loco IPA-my BOTW

    Only two choices this week:
Oakham Bishops Farewell - excellent as ever and BOTW Frog Island Fire Bellied Toad. Light and drinkable but punchy at 5%.
