    Default Reading CAMRA ber census

    I organised this! Took place today. Food for thought

    Right then Reading CAMRA ale census stats!

    Number of pubs visited: 94

    No of breweries represented: 74

    Number of different beers available: 162

    Top three beers (by most commonly available)

    1. Fullers London Pride (26)
    2. Sharps Doom Bar (16)
    3. Greene King IPA (13)

    Top five breweries (by most commonly available)

    1. Fullers (27 pubs)
    2. Greene King (24)
    3. Sharps (17)
    4. Loddon (14)
    5. Wadworth (10)

    We compare well with York (241 ales), Norwich (259), Sheffield (257) and Derby (176)

    Planning a trip to Reading in late Oct with a couple of mates , a few pubs including hopefully the Retreat before it closes. Also hopefully not having any Pride, Doom Bar or G.K. IPA.

    Thats an impressive amount of beers for a small town.Norwich claim the title on per head of population. i think you cant be far from being the beer Capitol. cheers

    Reading 145k, York 202k, Norwich 195k, Sheffield 640k, Derby 221k

    Whilst defining Reading's population is always a source of great debate down here (thanks to the unhelpful unitary authority carve-up a decade or so back) we have certainly got a better selection on the go than even I thought. And there's certainly room for another specialist ale outlet in RG1 in my view; affluent population, lots of students, two decent sports teams and good transport links...
