My pub of the month is Crown & Anchor . I've been going to Thirsk races for years and finally got round to completing all the pubs within easy walking distance of the town centre, racecourse and train station. Just my luck that the last pub to be visited was the best but at least i now know for future visits.

Just remembered 2 places listed still to visit but both looked quite food orientated so back to crown and anchor next month.

Not expecting to go out and about anywhere special for the rest of the month, several new and interesting pubs visited in the last month, honourable mentions for-
    The Eagle and Child
    Lamb and Flag
    The Royal Blenheim
    in Oxford, and in London,
    The Castle
    The Craft Beer Co
    and The Harp
But pub of the month, a breath of fresh air, goes to The Gunmakers.

I've hardly been in any UK pubs in August. So...................

If you're ever in Washington DC I can recommend District Chophouse, Gorden Biersch & Capitol Brewhouse.

In Virginia Beach 11th Street Taphouse & Abbey Road.

    In Charlotte Rock Bottom brewpub.

In Nashville Flying Saucer & Big River brewpub.

In Memphis Hueys Downtown & Flying Saucer.

In Cinncinatti Rock Bottom, Cock & Bull & Nicholsons.

In Pittsburgh Louie's at Station Square & The Diamond Center in Market Square.

And in Philadelphia Triumph brewpub, Nodding Head brewpub & The Plough & Stars.

No decent new pubs done this month i have been doing new and old bars in Nottingham so my pub of the month goes to The Stanhope Arms a pub which i have been in hundreds of times over the years and it now serves a very nice pint of Castle Rock Harvest Pale.

An unexpected couple of hours alone, in the centre of Edinburgh, enabled me to visit The Guildford, The Cafe Royal, The Oxford Bar and The Abbotsford. The Oxford nearly won, for its beer quality alone, but the staff were great during my visit to The Abbotsford. Their friendliness, the outstanding interior and beer quality add up to a worthy winner.

It's not often an old git like me is fulsome in his praise but anyone finding themselves in the wasteland of the East Riding could do worse than turn up at the Goodmanham Arms in the village of Goodmanham.

This bar has been well frequented by PuG regulars,so my choice of The Euston Tap as POTM will come as little surprise. There are now more seats and tables around the perimeter of the wide pavement outside, and the price of the cask ale is very reasonable for the location,I wasn't going to quibble at £3.20 for a pint of Marble Manchester Bitter.

The only downsides are the lack of internal space and the bogs which leave a lot to be desired. That has to be balanced against a great selection of real ale, personally I find little reason to stray onto the wallet busting, over carbonated, heavily chilled ,pasteurised keg offerings .

Part of a great chain ,I really must get up to The York Tap............

Despite visiting a few of the esteemed establishments in Oxford mentioned by Mr Duck as well as some of Hampshire's finest in August, POTM by a stretch was The Shoulder of Mutton in Wantage. An excellent boozer in all respects: characterful, friendly service and chatty locals and one of the best beer ranges I've seen which was supplemented on my visit by a small beer festival featuring some outstanding breweries and beer.

The good people of Wantage are truly blessed to have this gem on their doorstep.
