Default White Swan ]JDW] Pompey for sale

Seems JDW are not always the golden boys, even they are selling off pubs

Unfortunately one of them is the White Swan in Portsmouth which to my mind is one of the better JDW pubs in the city

"A WETHERSPOON pub which dates back more than 100 years has been put on the market for a six-figure sum.

The White Swan, in Guildhall Walk, Southsea, is being sold because the pub giant says the premises isn’t big enough.

Now if you remember the early shop conversion Wetherspoons round North London, you will know they have sold off many over the years. Must be rare that they are disposing of one after just 3 years though, unless they have acquired something with more 'potential' nearby.
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement

The rarity was they decided to buy & restore a closed Edwardian pub building, adjacent to the restored Theatre Royal of similar vintage whilst they own two in easy walking distance, one in fact in same "block" The Isambard Kingdom Brunel (JD Wetherspoon) and it is surrounded by the likes of Yates', Walkabout etc

which makes it's potential loss, as a smaller & more traditional pub unlike the cavernous JDW of normal style, even more disappointing, but I guess the bottom line is everything in these days of cutbacks & reduced spending, even if the beer is cheaper we all have wallets that empty more quickly
