My palate seems to be confused these days and I find I enjoy sweet beers more and more. So the excellent pint of Coach House Brewing Co. Toffee that I'm drinking right now is my BotW. (In Crown & Kettle Manchester )

One damp visit to the pub on Wednesday:the Summer Lightning went off as I ordered it, so compared and contrasted two stalwarts-Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter and Timothy Taylor's Landlord (without the sparkler as we were in Kent.).Surprisingly, as both were on good form, I favoured the Landlord: keener hops and well defined malt. My BOTW.

Needed to get the old tub to a boatyard for some repairs,so a journey through south Lancashire ended up with a very good BOTW in the shape of George Wrights Lubelski 41,a single hop seasonal special with a well balanced bitterness and smooth,an easy drinking quaffers ale.Served in The Ship,Lathom.

Layed up for a while now, will have to find other avenues for ale consumption

A decent week for choice, but nothing that blew my socks off. One or two of the big hitters were, disappointingly, a little below par e.g. Inferno. Tried this week:

    Fernandes - Straw Dog.
    Fernandes - Simcoe.
    Ridgeside - Innuendo.
    Fernandes - Malt Shovel Mild.
    Elland - Day Tripper.
    Rat - Golden Rat.
    Salamander - Stardust.
Fernandes - Ale to the Tsar.
    Fernandes - Celeia's Gold.
    Ossett - Patriot Pale.
    Timothy Taylor - Landlord.
    Dark Star - Hophead.
    Oakham - Inferno.
    Titanic - Last Porter Call.
    Cottage - Cactus Jack.
    Oldereshaw - Chariots 2012.

With honorable mentions for the Last Porter Call and Hophead, BOTW goes to the Simcoe, a lovely pale, hoppy brew that was just right to welcome the sun coming out on Wednesday teatime.
