Ah right, that explains why it was shut when I popped down there on Saturday. Seems I managed to visit on the weekend between the Cask closing and the Craft Beer Co opening.

I don't follow - the article doesn't suggest it is morphing from Cask to Craft, but, rather, back to Hop Poles.
Something odd about this - there's no way Cask would have taken such a short lease; hasn't it only been open a few weeks? I vaguely recall Martin was getting some trolling grief prior to opening, so I wonder whether there's been some trouble down there?

Sorry, I didn't make that very clear - the Cask had been open since March, but was unexpectedly closed when I visited last week. The Craft Beer Co, which as Hondo points out is on Upper North St, is due to open this weekend.
I've no idea why they bothered opening the Cask for such a short period - all very odd.

Ah. A different site. The clouds are clearing.

The grief was not trolling, but came from the previous operators of the Hop Poles (Snowdrop Inn, Lewes, folk) who believed that the Caskers pulled the rug from under their business by offering GK 'silly rent' and they, in turn, have said that they only went in when they heard the pub was 'available'. I really have no idea where the truth in all this may lay.
But, yes, I agree with the general consensus of oddness. The new operators will be local pub group Indigo who have a range of pubs in the city. While the company does have a strong commitment to local breweries, they appear to have extended Sussex a little further to the north than is generally acknowledged!
Keeping breweries in business for more than 40() years
