    Black Eagle
Believe Black Eagle in Hockley has a fest this weekend. There are also some decent pubs around the Jewellery Quarter these days.
Alcohol doesn't solve problems .... but then again, neither does milk.

Nice one Gill, Black Eagle is in, even if just for a flying one - plusbus (reduced to £1.50 for Jul&Aug) covers the metro, so it's easy to Soho Benson, and then I notice I can take bus 123 as an alternate route to Bartons; it's all coming together!

But what's the top tip for Jewellery Quarter? I've lost me notes from last visit, not sure if I marked one out that way or not.

ps. down Digbeth way, is it the Lamp, or Anchor, which gets the more popular vote?

Down Digbeth way,The Anchor is usually a safe bet with a wide range of real ale and an interesting interior.Worth walking around and checking the handpumps in the small saloon off the Rea Street entrance, which are not always included on the blackboard in the tap room.

For Hockley I would go for the Lord Clifden or the Jeweller's Arms

Can't believe I missed you by one day, as was at the Black Eagle fest on Friday evening with Mrs Ale. It wasn't too mobbed, but busy enough - after sampling a couple of ciders plus a Kinver 7.5, I found it a bit difficult to navigate around the garden! How busy was it yesterday on your visit?

After the fest went to the Post Office Vaults where I indulged in a La Trappe Blond 7% - very moreish. There are some excellent pubs around Brum, so always have a good time there
