    Default Pub clocks

I think we are all aware that pub clocks are always 5 to 10 minute fast, presumably to get the "Last orders" over before GMT closing time

However this lunchtime, nursing my pint of HSB, I was told it was "law", not just custom for pub clocks to be ahead of GMT

Any one know if this is true, or just b00ll0x?

Complete and utter gin gan goolies.

There is no such "criminal offence" as pub clock being incorrect.

If there's a law, there has to be a criminal offence to charge someone with.

BLX. Another one favoured by punters annoyed because they can't get a drink is that 'pubs must open all permitted hours'

I have just reported H Samuels for not having the same time on all 1623 watches that they had in the shop.

Back in the mists of time I seem to remember hearing of a case where a landlord was being prosecuted for serving after time. The defence was that the pub clock was running slow, which was chucked out obviously as it would probably have needed to be running a lot slow! Perhaps this tale is connected to that, as these things expand with the telling?

The St Stephen's Tavern has a massive clock and it's always spot on. Maybe they should draw the curtains and install sound proofing to comply with 'the law'
