Activity report on pub name changes
Hi admin,
When a pub's name is changed by you upon request from the forum would it be difficult to have this change logged on the page activity of the pub for historical data?
I say this as many changes are put through without a review so the old name is lost.

Hi Strongers,
Sorry to say, yes it would be extremely difficult. The auditing is one of the most difficult things in the system.

OK.... I thought that the names would already be kept in there if it was easy enough to do.

Indeed, it is something we would like to do.
Auditing is at the heart of most of our nightmares on the system. We try to audit everything so that it can all be credited and identified. Part of this requires a double auditing, so for instance if you set a picture so that it is hidden from a pub summary page it is stored in your personal audit, but never shows in the pubs audit. So anything we write has to create sensible audits in the system and even now this is not an easy task. It is also the reason why some jobs are extra difficult, eg. moving pictures, we have to correct all the audit trails so that you can still see where and when the picture was posted.
As to the specifics of name change - it was always anticipated this would be handled when we separated out old pubs from their current versions. So when you looked at a pubs summary you would see previous names and could look at those and see the reviews and pictures for them, hopefully reducing confusion as the current version of the pub would no longer have old photos and reviews against it. Sadly with our freeze on development at the moment this is looking like a very distant improvement unless someone offers me lots of money to improve the site (not a suggestion).
