I've decided not to do Shrewsbury after all, as it means an early start and rules out the use of a Derbyshire Wayfarer to get me from Sheffield to Burton on Trent. My train from Birmingham gets into...
Hope she makes a good recovery.
I imagine you'll be giving up booze for the duration - need a steady hand for those eye-drops!
Looking good!
Earlier in this thread someone mentioned there's an Arriva Trains Wales train from Shrewsbury to Wellington - I've just looked it up and there's one at 12:33 arriving in Wellington...
I thought we were approaching a consensus on 23rd June? At least, no one has said they can't do it. And the August date was looking a bit expensive for anyone who wanted to stay in a hotel either...
Maybe alternative dates would be cheaper (see my post #129 - June 23rd or 30th)?
Thanks for that. I didn't see those as I was looking at stopping trains between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton, thinking in terms of making one ticket cover all the individual journeys. Wellington is...
The train from Manchester to Wellington involves a change at Shrewsbury! I hear what you say about taking a whole day to do Shrewsbury - anyone who wants to could stay over and do it on the Thursday...
So that gives us a pretty straightforward timetable:
Depart Shrewsbury 12:47
Arrive Wellington 12:59
Arrive Oakengates 14:05
Arrive Shifnal 15:13
Arrive Albrighton 16:21
Arrive Codsall...
There's a stopping train that leaves Shrewsbury at 47 minutes past each hour (though why I'm writing this in response to someone whose sobriquet is Trainman is beyond me). It takes 12 minutes to...
Isn't August a bit late? We usually do the summer trip in July, though we did Rugby on 13th June 2014. Old Boots said he couldn't do any Fridays in July and now ROBCamra has said he can't do 11th...
We did Nottingham in the autumn of 2011. Before you joined the site, so your ignorance of this fact is clearly excusable.
OK, I think we've ruled out Helston as a destination.
Probably...
Sheffield, as the northern terminus of East Midlands Trains, is almost certainly in the Midlands. ;)
Yeah, you're right. And it's not pedantic. Anyway, next crawl:
Suggestions that have been made include Lancaster (that was me - see #1 in this thread); Stockport (Old Boots - see #98 in this...
Thanks for developing the route, John. I had a really good day. One dud beer - at the Brewhouse and Kitchen near the Angel: their own Watchmaker 5.5% was horrendously sweet and almost undrinkable....
This interesting idea from Aqualung may have been overlooked in the general rush of approval for tomorrow's No.38 bus crawl in London. Worth reviving as a possibility for summer or autumn this year?
Indeed.
Why go to eastern central Europe when you could be in eastern central London?
Totally agree. This is not a ticking exercise, but aiming for a good day out. I would therefore ask John not to worry if a few PuG regulars have already been to some of the pubs near the 38 bus...
Good grief!
I've now found a cheaper train that should get into London earlier (Kings Cross via Doncaster, rather than St Pancras direct) and I should be at the Clapton Hart by opening time.
Can't understand why. :nishelypished:
We haven't heard anything further about plans for this day out in London for a while. I presume John is too busy compiling his route of pubs along the 38 bus route to have time to spare to post on...
Phew! That was lucky - I forgot to check football fixtures before suggesting the 25th. It's Colchester Utd v Hatters that day, so I knew I'd be free (too much pressure on tickets with it being fairly...
Hey Aqualung! Is this interest in the next crawl an indication that you might be joining us? I do hope so!
Indeed
