Most new pubs I visited were average at worst. So I’ll give the prize to my former local Eagle & Child for turning a historic village pub into a glorified nightclub with generic fizz on the bar....

The one in Wigan charges for admission except on Sundays or if you get there in the first hour of opening. Which is a similar policy to most clubs…
And their website calls them “clubs” too. I think they’re just cluttering the site for no reason.

It’s my home town and has some outstanding pubs but even I couldn’t justify that statement! Seems like the main factor is how cheap the drinks are.

I always lose a bit of faith in a pub when I can’t rely on it to be open. Personally I prefer drinking early in the week and that’s when you can build up your real loyal custom.
