OK, it's run by H2O publishing, a "foodservice publisher" under the aegis of their organ Pub and Bar Magazine. It would appear that pubs have to enter themselves, rather than any sort of independent...
Not only did I post this 10 days ago but you replied to it, Tris!! If you go to the source, rather than the London Evening Comic, you will find 100 of them.
Potentially a list to avoid rather than visit - Estrella Damm's Top 100 Gastropubs for 2024 (in two parts). On a very unscientific read through I reckon I have been to about 25, although mainly...
Agreed - I've done half of them and would happily spend time at any of those.
If you look at the details, it claims that Wigan has "418 real ale pubs", so goodness only knows what they are basing it on. The whole Metropolitan Borough only has 200-250 pubs of any description...
First time I have actually done all on the list, not that it is a particularly brilliant list.
I'd come across this as well, although a number of them should be in the "Disappearing and 'in peril' breweries" thread, if they haven't gone already. I reckon I've been to about 10.
OK, someone has to say it. That's your wurst joke yet.
Some 20 of those over the years.
Just 4 of these - must try harder! I should have been there this week and knocked several more off but sadly the gig I was going to got cancelled.
You've hit the nail right on the head! Poorly researched and poorly written, with some very average pubs included.
Not one of my most visited areas so quite pleased to make 13
Just The Whyte Harte for me.
Yes, I spotted the Victoria too, which I seem to remember was a Whitbread pub originally. I had also done the 3 Pigeons in Richmond, which I think closed after a fire.
A sensible list for a change. I'm missing 4 (Admiral Vernon, North Star, Low House, Victoria) and no immediate likelihood of visiting any of those.
Having done much of the City, I annoyingly still need 4 of these, which probably means time for a return visit or two. Not too bad a list though.
At least 30/100, although I really CBA to check in detail, and nearly all of those were before 'Gastropubs' were a thing (and pub interiors weren't in 50 shades of grey).
All except the Queen's Head which, as OB's review states, is a bit of a bugger to get to. I have discovered there is one sensible (if convoluted) bus connection giving pub time of 12.47 - 14.08 so...
That's the sort of job you give to a junior or trainee. Find the best pub? - I know, look at Trip Advisor and that gives you a ranking... The trouble is that most media only have journalists of the...
7 I think. And while I know you have to take such things with a very large pinch of salt, even on the basic premise of "excellent drink, food and atmosphere" I am pretty sure several shouldn't be on...
Did the Lady Luck in Canterbury on a quiet afternoon and it was ok. Have also done the Market, Market House and Pearsons in the dim and distant past. None of them with music, although I don't mind a...
I have done 4, but have certainly never had a Sunday lunch in any of them!
Somewhere over 60 on a quick flip through, although I reckon I might have a few more under original names.
it does actually seem to have more of the good ones than the typical London list, along...
Around 60 on a quick run through without actually checking. There are some good ones there though quite a few might have featured in such a list some years ago but not really now.
I am also missing Skehans, which was a Watney pub in the days when I frequented the area, and the Jamaica Wine House.
