just the French House for me, and I only visited the downstairs bar.
It’s my home town and has some outstanding pubs but even I couldn’t justify that statement! Seems like the main factor is how cheap the drinks are.
only the Churchill Arms from that list!
5 for me too.
The 13 best pubs in Liverpool… mmm, I don’t think so.
I doubt she even wrote a word in that article. Descriptions seem to be copy & pasted from various puff pieces and news articles.
18. Some very good pubs there but also some random and inexplicable selections, not sure what the criteria was.
8/12, including some of my favourite pubs anywhere
Based on that list, I very much share their taste in pubs & bars.
The first mistake is using TripAdvisor as a guide. For hotels and restaurants, perhaps, but completely useless for pubs. Does this journalist seriously believe a Hungry Horse five miles out of town...
Just two for me - Real Crafty and Magazine Hotel. The Pelican hadn’t reopened post-Covid when I was in Gloucester, and I didn’t bother with the Station House when I was in Durham.
just 4 for me. Must get down to London again soon.
Think the Lamb and Flag is the only one I have visited there, although I was so bored towards the end I may have missed one. It felt like that article was never going to end.
Just the Bow Bar. I tried to visit the Guildford twice but it was just too busy when I was there. Leslies Bar and Captains Bar were my favourites as I remember. Must get back to Edinburgh ASAP.
Not been to Brum at all, so it’s another duck egg for me.
Just the Roscoe Head for me.
To be honest I have a soft spot for biker or rock pubs too even if i don’t always feel that comfortable in them. They have character when many/most pubs don’t
Been to two - the Pumphouse tourist trap in Liverpool and the much better Tyne Bar in Newcastle.
Just the Chandos... plenty of times. Nice pub.
I lived in Lancaster for five years but the Stonewell and Water Witch were never regular haunts. Never made it to the Snatchems Golden Ball which I rather regret now as I think it has closed down.
I have had a drink in 6 of them, yet to visit quite a few of the London ones.
then again, Al was definitely one of a kind. Even I would struggle drinking John Smiths smooth keg in 21 pubs in a row as he sometimes did
5 out of 15. I always make a beeline for the Princess Louise and the Chandos on the rare occasions when I'm in London. I don't mind their beer to be honest, the stout and bitter are usually fine....
Zero. Never been to a pub there.
