Yes I'm catching the 10.05 , despite the fact Portsmouth is not that far from me it's still nearly a 2 hour trip, whereas Southampton is just under an hour.In this case I'm going via Woking?

Yes, I'm a couple of years short of qualifying for the old fogey version that would allow me to travel the hour earlier at discount.

Will now be arriving just before 12.00, an hour earlier costs me an extra 8 quid, currently looking at leaving 8pm ish but that is flexible.

Personally I don't think the King St Tavern is worth the detour. The Apsley House has a bit of a pedestrian beer range. Porters is on the hipster side but could be a try also. The Lawrence is fine...
