Of the remaining four, the Low House, North Star and Harrow (thanks to Tris) are on the 'to do' list, but I can't say I've ever heard of the Admiral Vernon - I thought The Eastbrook was the definitive Dagenham/East London inter-war boozer.
I went to the Admiral Vernon with one of my Luton Town mates in February 2009, before a game that we lost 2-1 in the season when we were relegated from the Football League. He was into heritage pubs - I've kinda picked up the torch after he died in 2013. I didn't make any notes or take photos - this was a year before I'd even heard of Pubs Galore - and I don't remember much about the pub, except that it was pretty busy - well, when the Hatters come to town...Quote:

There are 49,097 pubs listed as open on this site, which is significantly higher than the 'below 40,000' reported in the article. Not sure what would account for such a significant discrepancy?Quote:

Yes. And the number of pubs with the word 'Hotel' as a suffix is down but not out. Not that long ago whilst drinking in the Roebuck (NW3), a tourist walked in and asked if there were rooms available, having seen the name 'Roebuck Hotel' to the parapet; the staff looked suitably baffled.Quote:
