I am really going to enjoy my week up there now. Our caravan site is in York itself by the river down from the Swan and the Slip which we enjoy, and we go next Wednesday, so hoping it will be open.

bad news "York pub that became the first in modern times to add its own brewery has closed suddenly. "

I was right. When we were in Brigantes last month, there were folks with what looked like plans and eying the ceiling up, and I said to Ray looks like they are extending to the empty shop, but he didn't think so. Will be great.

Shops & restaurants being converted to pubs, and no change of use required? Does CAMRA have a stance on this, I wonder?

Off to York for the beer festival next month. Staying for 5 nights, so will have a good wander round some of the newer bars around there, if I can drag myself away from the old favourites. Beer, breweries and bars seem to get in the news a lot there at the moment.
I wish i was in York this weekend for this festival http://www.theslipinnyork.co.uk/ :notworthy:
Our caravan site is round the corner from the Slip Inn, but we have never managed to be there for a festival yet. Always pop in on the way back though.

It is a good press release for York. We have 5 nights in York from next Wednesday - going to be good!!
Well we are settled in York. Just been looking at York Central, and have a list of 14 bars with no reviews. They all have photos, so going out today to have a look round as many of those 14 as we can to get some reviews done. Best laid plans and all that will mean we could pop into some favourites on the way round though, so may not get them all done. Beer fest will take up Thursday and Friday, but could mop some more up on Saturday.
We did. Will write up here what I thought of the "pubs" chosen from this site when I am a bit more sober. Of the 14 pubs chosen from here, I got 1 real ale in one of the bars!! Good job there were others around to pop into. More later.
York pubs visited today. 1 - 14 are the ones I chose from this site as reviews needed.
1. V.J's Art Bar. 4 fonts. No real ale . Did have some bottled Blgian beers. Coffee.
2. La Tasca. Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant. Closed so don't know what beers.
3. Lucia Wine Bar and Grill. No draught but some bottled beers.
4. Wildes Wine Bar and Bistro. 3 font beers.
5. 1331 Café bar . YES Had York Nelson Sauvin here. Great place.
6. Kujas. Now named Macumba Lounge and Bar and no real ale. Fonts only.
7. VuDu. Lounge cocktail bar. Closed and couldn't see in.
8. Tokyo Joe. Now called Blind Swine but closed. Set up as restaurant inside.
9. Liberty. The bar area of the Monkbar Hotel is now called Cloisters but fonts only.
10. Masons bar and bistro. Couple of fonts. Creamflow and bottles.
11. Dusk. No ale café bar.
12. Vanity might be Blue Fly but was closed. Says draught beer, but it is Becks Vier. Club from 11pm.
13. Flares. ? nightclub from posters on windows. Closed but DJ party nights advertised and drink packages.
14. Rumours. Closed but could see fonts and a decent garden.
Will put something on as a review on each of them, but to me it seemed a waste of a day in York. Managed to get beer in Habit, Snickleways, Tap & Spile, Maltings, Brigantes, Punchbowl JDW (American one Six Point Bengal Tiger), Swan and Slip Inn. I did find areas in York I did not know existed though.
Looking forward to the festival tomorrow now though.
you deserve some good beers today

A nice piece of writing here, I'm waiting to hear the next bit.
