Didnt get out much and disappointingly the Cerne Abbas mini beer festival seemed dominated by low ABV bitters,no mild ,porters or stout.Slightly horrified to see both Youngs Bitter and Old Speckled Hen featuring among the 20 ales :eek:but I had to remind myself that this is darkest Dorset.
The week was saved by a heavy session in The Edgar Wallace and my BOTW was Howard Town Glotts Hop a 5% citrus and bitter golden ale, right up my strasse.

Decent session last night
Wye Valley - Butty Bach x 2
Hopback - Autumn Gold
Timothy Taylor - Landlord
Osset - Silver King
Three Tuns - 1642
Jennings - Crag Rat
Salopian - Golden Thread
M&B - Mild
Purple Moose - Dark Side of the Moose x 2
and a Guiness
Felt a bit rough this morning:D
Takes a lot to beat Butty Bach but i think the Hopback Autumn Gold just shades it
BOTW Hopback Autumn Gold

Two excellent beers this week, and one interesting one (see New Breweries):Dark Star American Pale Ale and Hopdaemon Skrimshander. The Dark Star American Pale Ale wins by a miliband-intensly hoppy with all sorts of wonderful New World hops, some of which at least can be grown here in Kent.

Despite honourable mentions for Mallinsons 'Atlantean', Ilkley 'Stout Mary' and particularly Dark Star 'Hylder', the winner is undoubtedly Raw Brewing Co 'Grey Ghost'. The fact that three of us have chosen it for BOTW says an awful lot.
-
Two beers stood out for me this week - Marston Moor Matchlock Mild and Milk Street Funky Monkey. I'll give BOTW to the Funky Monkey - an excellent, citrusy beer that went down nicely on what was seemingly the last summers day of the year.
-
Had two particularly memorable pints this week, both in The Cellar Bar, Highworth.
My BOTW is Celebration Ales Summer ale, but I ought to give a mention to the Black Rat cider (COTW?).
Sadly no competition from the home pubs this weekend as I was forced to stay at home.

Can't believe I had a beerless week with nothing from Darlington 18th until today.
Never mind, have had a few in Brum today to start working on next week's BOTW, and will be at Maltings York fest next Sunday before going down to Nottingham.

Seems Nottingham is very popular topic at the moment! Few of us are going to Nottingham in next month..
-
A mixed bag beer-wise last week, with a few first-timer’s (see the first 3 listed) and a few desperate scrapings of the barrel – see Becks and Carling.
Ringwood Huffkin x 4
Nick Staffords Hambleton Ales Stud [bottle] x 1
Naylors Brewery Pinnacle blond [bottle] x 1
Becks [bottle] x 1
Carling [can] x 1
Guinness x 3
Brains Rev James x 1
Vodka & Coke x lord knows
BOTW: Nick Staffords Hambleton Ales Stud: a bottled Yorkshire bitter with a rich sensation and warm mouth-feel.

Quite a few goodies last week but several that I have previously nominated for BotW and as I'm not a fan of duplication, I will go for one I had in the Wenlock: Northumberland, Jimmy Smith which is part of their Legends of the Tyne football series and a personal debut pint from that particular brewery.
