Not sure its that selfish. Lots of pubs stop selling breweries beer when they are local and open a taproom. Pubs are in competition with other pubs to attract beer drinkers .They are also in competition with brewery taprooms but the taprooms have a big advantange as they have a wholesale business and they are selling the beer at cost rather the price that pubs have had to pay.
Not sure that pubs are part of the fabric of Britain to the british.Maybe to the tourists .Yes they are important but that was said about coal mining, ship building and other key employers but we have survived without them.Personally don't think that the style of pubs we on pubs galore like have much future.
More joy.
"On 27 January, the Prime Minister announced that there will be a ‘gradual and phased’ approach to lifting restrictions, with the national lockdown in place until at least 8 March. There has now been reports of a three-point plan, whereby schools will reopen first, followed by non-essential shops in April and pubs and restaurants in May."
Government policy leaked yet again?
"Claims from local public health directors that hospitality venues are not a big risk of coronavirus transmission should come as no surprise, one trade body has said. "
Whatever evidence there may be that hospitality venues are not a major means of virus transmission, there is no evidence that the government is prepared to pay any attention to the scientific advice. They prefer to think of the people of this country as a bunch of unruly drunks, flinging their arms around each other and having a jolly sing-song in smoke filled bar lounges in the 1950s.
My local micropub the Owl and Pussy cat have announce they have been given permission by Ealing council to sell takeaway beer. The government has said no takeaways from pubs .Ealing council say its okay. Strange one.
