Someone somewhere compiled a list of where we'd been previously on the official PuG meet-ups, anyone know where this is located?
North sounds about right, with South being in the summer.
Lincoln, Hull, Manchester, Stockport all places I haven't been and need an excuse to go to...
I'd like to suggest turning that around and do a southern one in March, when the north can still be in the grip of winter. And with Easter being in March next year, we're going to have to go for early to mid March to have any chance of cheap train fares.
...any of those sound good, but can we do one of them in summer, please? Oxford got seven votes in last year's poll - level with Lincoln. What about Oxford in March and Lincoln in July?
Or someone could set up another poll...
Ive done virtually all pubs in Lincoln and good amount i Hull over 130,i had at one point done all pubs and bars in Manchester, over 500 done within the city boundarys
Stockport is another town that i have done most pubs in even in its outer areas.
So no chance on me redoing these places for a pub crawl.
With Good Friday on March 25th and school breaking up just beforehand that still leaves Friday March 4th,11th and 18th as possible dates for cheap fares .It would be good to hear from some of the other northern correspondents about their preferences for the next crawl given the general opinion to share out venues across the country .Is Lincoln deemed to be in the north ?
Been to all of them and done just about every pub worth doing in them all.
Other Northern places are available e.g. Newcastle, Durham, Chester, Huddersfield (now there's a proper beer town).
Poll here

All the Northern suggestions plus Oxford given Will's point that it'd be bloody cold in certain parts.
A way around this possible bias is to agree that if Oxford is the peferred option this time, then the next crawl should be in the north with the venue drawn from those on the current poll .This "northern only" poll should be re run nearer the time (April ?) to allow the Oxford only voters this time a chance to express their preference for the venue for the northern crawl.Does that seem fair ?
Didn't I hear that last time??????????????????????????
Must be my Deja Vu playing up again.
It's a ridiculous poll for a Northern crawl to have Oxford in there. :moremad:
North Korean style democracy in action.
I can see another Northern Splinter group crawl coming on.
Although I wont be going I thought it was St Albans then Derby- then up north. Oxford though popular doesn't fit the criteria of being north. The weather should not make any difference to a pub crawl.
I think the point some of us were making last year was that we don't want to get stuck into a strict pattern of North/South/Mid. However one question I would raise is what is the best time of year to visit Oxford? Is it possible that by mid June some of the students have buggered off or doesn't it make much difference?
It doesn't have to be South-Midlands-North in strict rotation. That way it's always the same time of year in the same parts of the country. The aim, as I understand it, is to share the travelling fairly equally between members who are fairly evenly spread (hence a preponderance of Midlands venues, so far).
Looking at A brief history of PuG crawls (and trying to distinguish between those events that had sufficient notice to entice potential participants from the other end of the country and those where perhaps only those who were fairly local were expected to turn up), in past years we've done Midlands in autumn (2010, 2011, 2012, 2015), spring (2013) and summer (2014); South in summer (2013, 2015), spring (2014*), and autumn (2014); North in spring (2012, 2015) and autumn (2013).
I agree it's about time we did the North (we've only done Liverpool, Leeds and York, FFS), but I'd like to do it in summer! How many people who live as far away as London, or further, are going to want to go to Huddersfield in March?
* Worcester seems pretty much south to me, but perhaps it's Midlands, in which case we did Midlands twice that year
[Sorry, Dave. Didn't see your post when I was typing mine.]
For the record I voted for Oxford and Huddersfield, I would prefer the latter in the summer but whenever It would be a lot easier and cheaper on a Saturday, but then I suppose that will kick off a Friday bias.
Can we at least agree that if Oxford is chosen for March ,then the summer venue is in the North ???
As Will points out only Liverpool,Leeds and York have ever been visited by the PuG crawl in the 5 years this has been going on.That seems wrong to me if we are talking about a fair distribution of venues across the country which I understood to be guiding principle .
The votes on the poll are multiple per person. Oxford seems to be basically a destination people want to do anyway, so if we then pick the two from the North with most votes, we can schedule them in.
So how about the following for 2016; North - South (Ox) - North in that order? That gets North closer to parity by the end of the year in terms of the three 'zones' and means ROBCamra has less to moan about  it is important to try and be equitable over the medium-term.
Of course, if we had any Welsh, Irish or Scottish peeps who wanted to get in on the whole PuG crawl thing...
Fridays probably suit people who dont work full time anymore,
Most people who travel on a regular basis will know that it is always more expensive on a Friday.
I do work full time and work a half day on Friday but get payed for a full day has i have worked the extra hours on Monday to Thursday,so i will never book a Friday off to do a pub crawl.
I think the point is that people prefer a Friday as it means firstly that you don't have work tomorrow or need to take an extra day plus there is the option of staying over and exploring further. There is also a plus that the weekend remains for those with family commitments. I work full time and Friday is the best day for me.
Either day suits me, usually.
I would much prefer a Friday ,as Saturday March 5th and 19th are booked off for footie. That would leave only Saturday 12th March available for my attendance at the pub crawl.
I thought I would BUMP this thread by seeing if there is any traction behind this suggestion from Quinno.
Clearly Oxford has topped the 14 person poll ,and should therefore be visited but with the need to address the past under representation of northern venues this sequential North/Oxford/North suggestion for the 2016 venues seemed to me a valid way forward.
Any thoughts ?
We decided Northern winner for March, then Oxford. As Hull and Huddersfield are tied, I will add a quick new poll to separate them.
HERE it is http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showt...POLL-for-March
Only 10 days to vote!!
Is there any date or destination set for this yet? East Coast deals go on sale 1st thing tomorrow...
Hull in World's top 10 to visit!

Well blow me down...
Given Hull has twice as many votes as Huddersfield, I say we just go for it so ppl can book tomorrow
