I did most pubs in Mayfair last October, all of which are pretty much chains. Ignoring keg offerings, the average price of a half over six pubs was £2.62, the highest being £2.80, the lowest £2.30 in The Burlington Arms. Halves in the Southampton/Cock are £2.21 for a standard beer and any typical London alehouse charges well under a fiver for a standard pint, so £3.00 for a half of 3.5% beer is an absolute rip-off.
I did warn you all about Hopwoods ;)
Glad it was a good day - I think Preston is a superb place for beer these days, and the Black Horse is one of my favourite pubs in the country. Hopefully I can make it to one of these crawls soon.
Just got back - after nailing Preston I then went to see my parents the following day and ticked off all the GBG/Spoons/Sam's pubs from Fleetwood to Blackpool North :)
Manchester's GBG pubs continue to be a source of perpetual disappointment, as I discovered either side of those two days.
Preston was a really good day out and far exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations!
I think I must have about 50 reviews in the backlog now
Shock, horror !Attachment 2739
A thoroughly good day. I missed out the northern end to get the train home but I think I will have to go back to Preston somewhen!
Here's a couple of pics from Winckley St. Did anyone get the outside group shot at the Orchard (or was it Guild Ale)?

Finally got round to sorting the pics from a very boozy weekend...
