coming to a station near you ?
It has, here's a picture of it yesterday

If it's half as good as Sheffield Tap...
Well it will be only half the distance from Leeds! (As the train goes)
We've booked a trip to York for the weekend before Xmas, so hoping it will be complete for then. Banners at York fest said opening in November, so should be ok, even if they over run a little.
There were only 3 days available to book on site for the whole of Nov and Dec so we booked them. Yes it will be hectic, but we are just round the corner from the Slip and the Swan so just far enough for a bit of tranquility if needed, but near enough to be a short walk to anywhere.

:)
I don't get up there till December, but am really looking forward to going. Sheffield Tap is great, so this one sounds mind blowing.
Right, I am on a one day coach trip to York next week [based Leeds area] I have never been to York, is the station easy to find? Any clues? I guess coach will chuck us off at a bus / coach station, is the rail station near or miles away?
If I find it I will give it a go, but the Minster must come first with the camera
Are there translation facilities for Southerners? Or do I just chuck "by 'eck" in now & then ?
PS, despite the Avatar I do not actually own a flat cap, so may not blend in ;)
The company already have the Pivni in York of course, which I presume they are keeping on, as well as the Euston Tap in London. They are allegedly about to open a Cider Tap adjacent to the latter. Wonder where they are looking at next?
It depends on which coach but the Megabus and National Xs usually stop under the city walls opposite the railway station, not sure about private hire coaches, I suspect by the railway station as well. BUT the Tap will not be open next week. From the station you walk past the big hotel then go through the arch in the walls, turn left and keep going up the hill to the Minster (The Maltings is on the right when you cross Lendal bridge).
Some coaches stop at Askham Bar which has a park and ride bus into the city centre, others go to Piccadilly which is almost in the middle of the old city and a shortish walk to the Minster. The Blue Bell is the best pub near Piccadilly and there are several good ones near the Minster, the Three Legged Mare, and the Guy Fawkes for example.
It's much easier to find by train from Leeds :D
Just shout clearly and slowly and they'll probably get it, you could also say "eh oop, lad" quite often.
Perhaps you could borrow one and a whippet would also help.:p
Thanks OB & Rex

Thanks Old Boots. I am really looking forward to my December trip up there now as they should be open and everything settled down getting ready for Christmas. Found them on twitter so can keep up to date there too.

If I remember correctly it was around this time of year that the Euston Tap opened so they're obviously hoping the Xmas trade might kick things off. Good luck to them, it looks bigger than the Euston property which is a major restriction for them, especially during the winter months. Although it's in the station I hope there is the opportunity for an outside overspill. They'll also need to think carefully about pricing, I can't see the good folk of Yorkshire taking kindly to the sort of prices we see at Euston.
"Tap 3, the end result, is a 4.2% ABV straw-coloured, hoppy ale made using three different types of hop, Galaxy, Stella and Summer, all of which are from Australia."

It has a similar feel to the Sheffield Tap, but is much larger, and more spacious. It has been beautifully restored with 2 large glass domes in the roof. The bar is in the middle and has 3 sides to it. Hand pumps are on two sides with the keg taps on the third.
There are two entrances to the pub, one from platform 3, and one from the left side of the building looking from the street. The only down side is that there aren't too many tables on the platform side of the bar, which is a pity as there is a superb view of York station"
Still about 4 weeks till we can get up there..
I knew I should have gone today but work got in the way, ah well maybe tomorrow.
Made it there last night, as some will know from my bragging text:D. It's everything you would expect and I already like it better than the Sheffield Tap. I can see a lot more trips to York coming up. :nishelypished:
I will post a review and some pictures once it's on the site, I'm just waiting for approval of the addition.

Can't wait. What a brilliant review.
Enjoyed reading that, although the effort from our very own 'short, fat, balding old git' of Ripon wasn't bad either:
York Tap
Saw it from the train last week but sadly couldn't split my journey. Hope you also make it to Volunteer Arms http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43705/ and a shout out to Fulford Arms http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43551/ http://www.fulfordarms.co.uk/ across the river from the campsite
Volunteer is on the agenda as we stay near the Swan and Slip, and it is one of theirs.

A little nudge for this thread as York Tap have made an improvement for us Gentlemen (as I suggested they should in my original review*), I may have to check this out on Monday.

York of course believes Norwich cheated in some way  but it doesn't matter as both cities are wrong as this handy chart shows:
City............No of beers on sale.............date of survey
Derby...................176....................... .... (Feb 11)
Nottingham...........251.......................... ..(Sep 11)
Norwich................254........................ ....(Jun 12)
York.....................247...................... ......(Jun 12)
Sheffield..............310........................ ....(July 12)
