Stumbled across another for my occasional series of outstanding beers this week:
Mad Scientist Absence of Light Stout.
Worth going to Darlington for, and there's not many things in that category!
Garage Beer - Soup. Had in the Hope & Union in Stockton.
Half decent with a few very good ones tried today,
Flowerpots Perridge Pale
Purity Hopwork Orange
Watneys Ray Of Sunshine
Hall & Woodhouse Thirsty Ferret
Church End Goats Milk
Bad Seed Key Note
Brew York Turtle Peach
Colchester Jack Smithy
Eliswood Black Rose Porter
Steam Town Reefer
Steam Town Bishops Gold
Vibrant Forest Summerlands
Vibrant Forest/Butchers Hook Metamorph
New Bristol Irish Cream Stout
Some nice stuff there amongst some ordinary but with out a doubt New Bristol Irish Cream Stout Romps it, 7.0% and sublime, enjoyed this afternoon in The Steel Tank.
Nothing offensive here though the Cotleigh Osprey was close but little outstanding.
ELB Orchid Mild 3.6%
Peerless Curve Ball Blond 3.7%
Southwark Routemaster Red 4.2%
Wily Fox The Fox That 4.2%
Oakham Citra 4.2%
Hook Norton Old Hooky 4.6%
Red Star Samba 4.7%
Hawkshead Brodies Prime Porter 4.9%
Cotleigh Osprey 5.0%
North Riding Amaretto Porter 5.0%
Phoenix Double Gold 5.0%
Brewdog Punk IPA (keg) 5.4%
Big Bog Bourbier 6.0%
The best was probably the Oakhm Citra but that's so last week I'll go for the low abv Peerless Curve Ball Pale which was £2.49 in the Richard John Blacker JDW in Liverpool. It may be weak but had a great taste.
BOTW Peerless Curve Ball Blond
Leek,Stanley,Consall and Kew.
Vocation -- Life and Death *
Facers -- North Star Porter
Titanic -- Plum Porter *
Heritage Brewing -- St Modwen Golden Ale (badged as Black Lion Gold)
Peakstones Rock -- Black Hole
Marston's -- Draught Bass (3PT)
Twickenham -- Naked Ladies
BOTW goes to Vocation Life & Death,a great IPA which didn't drink like a 6.5% in top form in the fabulous Earl Grey Inn as part of a brief tour around the great drinking town that is Leek.
Next week more Thames Path.
Interesting week:
Vocation Life and Death*
Thornbridge Jaipur IPA*
Titanic White Star*
Heritage Black Lion Gold
Alton Black Hole*
Marstons Bass*
Oakham Bishops Farewell*
Another vote for the Vocation Life & Death as BOTW against some stiff competition. Couldn't avoid a second despite the excellent choice available.
Another quiet week, although slightly better than last week. At least I managed to tick a couple of new breweries. Also, an early Father's Day present let me sample four beers from various Bristol breweries.
Oakham - Citra.*
Bingley - Lock Keeper.
Mad Crafty - Bubblegum Blonde.
Blue Bee - Cream Soda Pale.
Salt - West Coast Special.*
Ridgeside - Milky Joe.
4Ts - Old Skool Mild.
North Riding - Mosaic.*
Pentrich - Little Fury.
North Riding - (Hazelnut?) Porter.
Incredible Brewing - IPA.* (bottle)
Wiper & True - Mosaic. (bottle)
Bristol Beer Factory - El Choco. (bottle)
New Bristol - Joy of Sesh. (bottle)
Of the draught beers, the Citra and Mosaic were the pick. Having not had the former for a while, I'll give it the nod. No problems with quality, that I could discern. Tried at The Black Rock, Wakefield. Although not a huge fan of bottled beer, I was very impressed with the Incredible Brewing IPA. Will definitely be trying some more of their beers in the future.
