I'll kick off with Wolf's Golden Jackal-I've had this a few times this summer, and find it a good quaffable session beer with a decent fruity background.
Just back from a few days in Cork, and a painful reminder that in a country like Ireland which is rightly renowned for its pubs the same cannot be said for its beer. That said, at least you could get a decent-ish pint of stout (i.e. Beamish, even though this is now produced at Murphy's Lady's Well brewery by Heineken Ireland) in most bars. I also found a bottle of Dungarvan's Helvick Gold and tracked down the Franciscan Well brew-pub which had some interesting brews such as Shandon Stout and Rebel Red (also quite widely available elsewhere in the city). But my Irish beer of the week would have to be the excellent Galway Hooker (honouring something nautical, and not what you might think...) which I had en route in Dublin.
My Beer of the week for this week from the limited few Pints as I only had a chance too drink Last night was

Today was the first day that truly felt like autumn was on the way. Still that's when Snecklifter, Riggwelter and Old Peculier 'et al' come into their own.Quote:

Whilst on my travels beyond the Wall I encountered quite a lot of Skye Red Cuillin, most of it well kept, all of it enjoyable. The other prominent beer was Cairgorm Trade Winds. Of the 2 I'd say the Trade Winds has the edge on taste, although it's not as common, so that's my nomination. The big disappointment was the lack of Black Isle I saw, bearing in mind I was within spitting distance of the Brewery for much of the week.
A monster week for good beers topped off by the highly underrated Wilmington Cricket & Beer festival yesterday (and probably today since there were 12 I didn't get to try yesterday). 24 ales, all from different counties and all from micros, many of whom I had never heard of and just 2 that I have sampled previously. All that and a seat on the balcony listening to leather on willow in the sun.
Friday introduced me to Palmers Dorset Gold, a great beer and also one for the new brewery thread thought I until a bit of research uncovered the fact that the brewery was established in 1794. The oldest new brewery I have come across. A close 2nd for BotW but No 1 is from the Cricket/beer fest. The tasting notes of Bowman Eldorado described it as "a subtle injection of Elder Flowers. No heavy floral scent but more of the tiniest hint of this spring bloom with a lovely bitter finish". At 3.5% I thought I would be getting little more than slightly flavoured tap water but what a wonderful session pint (or half as it was). I will certainly have a second helping if I go back today.
Several contenders this week. Naylor's Lunds Bitter was very good in the Regal Moon Rochdale. Box Steam Derail Ale was also excellent in the City Arms Manchester.
The winner is going to be Acorn Gorlovka Stout though. My favourite dark beer after Elland 1872 porter. Both were on in the Regal Moon this weekend. It really is nearly Autumn.
A reasonable beer-supping week, with 17 pints consumed over a 3-day period.

A trip down to The Wenlock Arms ,Hoxton was always likely to throw up a BOTW and having got through six of the eight handpumped ales the best (that I can remember:nishelypished:) was Downton's India Pale Ale,very crisp , golden and strong at 6.8%,I needed a pint of Brewers Gold to wash that down afterwards.It really was an excellent pint and true to the original IPA style.
A tough choice this week, but just edged by Potbelly Beijing Black, seeing as autumn seems to have begun in earnest.
Any update on alleged plan for current incumbents to move on BF? One could easily imagine that being the end.Quote:

I'm back from my holiday now...didn't find much of interest in Croatia (the best of the bunch being a dark lager called Lasko Dark), but I did manage to pick up a few bottles of Palmer's beer whilst down in Dorset over the weekend. The Dorset Gold was excellent but my BOTW goes to Palmer's Tally Ho - a cracking strong dark beer (5.5%) and the only Palmer's beer I hadn't tried previously.
Sorry I am late with this, but my BOTW was the Bushys Triskellion that we had at the excellent Boathouse at Wylam's Island festival on the 29th.

The 'also' refers to the fact the piece is on the same page as the plight of the Duke of Hamilton, about which we hear brighter news elsewhere from Strongers.
I didnt see the London Drinker article,that is always going to be more credible but there is a lot of hedging about in that piece.Great news about the Duke of Hamilton and I would have thought that if the council planners in Hoxton could be pressured into giving an opinion that change of use for The Wenlock would be refused,that might cool developer interest.I dont live around there but in my neck of the woods change of use was refused at the Golden Fleece www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/14999/ which has now reopened.The local CAMRA should be best placed to fight any threat to The Wenlock I would have thought.Quote:

The Dodford Inn fought a long campaign against change of use plans I believe a few years ago, heavily supported by the local CAMRA and residents, and won.
A few years since I have been there, but it was always a good pub for real ale and live music, and had a field campers could use. I know as we had been on it at least twice.
They are still into real ale and have festivals too.
