Thanks for highlighting this Tris. The landlady of this pub, Kirsty Valentine, has been unceremoniously dumped out of her pub by the pubco. The second of the the comments on the website is by James Watson, who is leading the fight to save The Chesham Arms in Hackney.

Just for information, what we are being asked to sign here is a petition in support of the application for an ACV. They will undoubtedly already have signatures for the ACV application - they only need 21 and they must be by people in the borough in question, or an adjoining borough.

ACVs are certainly better than nothing, but they are not perfect. What they do is give the community the time and opportunity to make a bid if the pub comes up for sale. But if a developer comes along and is willing to pay twice the market value of the building as a pub - because it is worth that kind of money if he can convert it into residential accommodation (which is what happened in the case of the Chesham Arms), then there isn't much the community can do about it. An ACV doesn't prevent permitted development, but at least it gives the community a fighting chance.
