Just thought I'd move this into a separate thread otherwise it may get lost in the Stockport one
I will watch for the date for this one.

Good grief! It's two years since I went to Coventry and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I only went to one non-Spoons which has now closed. One problem is that it's further than I would like to walk between the centre and Earlsdon but there are buses. On the plus side it's fairly easily accessible by rail from most of England.
I presumed Coventry was a spoof suggestion!
How very dare you! It was a serious suggestion after reading someone or others blog, Retired Martin? BRAPA? anyway one of them bloggy things and it looked OK
Yes there are better places in the Midlands but we've done Brum, we've done Rugby and Leicester and we've done the best of the Black Country so where next?
Could be Stourbridge (closed during the day?)
Walsall
West Bromwich
Worcester
Severn Valley Railway or just Kidderminster
Warwick
Lichfield
Nuneaton
I was thinking more Stafford, Loughborough or Newcastle Under Lyme. Surely Stourbridge pubs are open at 12:00 on a Friday? It isn't on the main drag rail wise but for rail enthusiasts that haven't yet been on the "Boneshaker Shuttle" it may add kudos.
I went to Warwick recently and was unimpressed. I mainly went as it's less than a fiver each way for me and I wanted to visit the Project William pub. I also wanted to make sure that the hordes of tourist shoppers no longer got on the train at Bicester (they don't). At least the JDW was much improved.
It's quite expensive, but might be worth it. Tickets booked in advance are £18.80 (or £17.30 for those in their 60s) plus a booking fee. If we knew in advance who was going, we could do the booking for the whole party and only pay one £1.75 fee, rather than all of us paying it individually.
Have you seen the suggested route by Gen.Stahl?
It was Andy Ven, another mate of Soup Dragon, https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/crawl/v....php?crawl=482
It may need a little tweeking as it's quite old, there are a few good pubs in Kidderminster and there's the brewery tap in Bewdley (although quite a way from the station and limited opening but near the Little Pack Horse) and the Woodcolliers is closed, it was rumoured to be reopening when I was in Bewdley. Agreed the cost is steep but we could mitigate it as you suggest.
We had a great time in Stockport. I'm feeling brave and would like to put Brighton forward as a possibility for the next crawl. I know summer would be nicer, but also busier. What do you think?
I typed more last night, then somehow managed to delete it by accident. Grrr
I like the idea of Brighton but there's no way I'm going there in summer! We usually have a mid- to late March crawl, and I would support Brighton for that.
I can't summon up a huge amount of enthusiasm about Coventry, but the Midlands venue that got me interested was the suggestion of the Severn Valley Railway to Bridgnorth. That would be a very nice summer trip.
You're right there it was murder on a sunny Saturday in June, the school holidays don't bear thinking about. Apart from being ridiculously expensive, there is another problem with Brighton in that Southern Railway not only cancel half their trains but they seem to have permanently stopped doing cheap advance tickets. I don't know if Thameslink (or whatever they call themselves now) do them at all. There's a pretty rubbish gWr service from Bristol way but Cross Country services don't seem to go there at all now.
I would be very happy to support the idea of Brighton as the next "southern" venue and March would be a very good time (Not March 30th Good Friday).I agree with others to avoid the summer months,so November is an alternative for Brighton in 2018.
The Severn Valley Railway also sounds like a fun idea for a "midland" venue ,a bit more interesting than Coventry .Having said that if Coventry gets the nod,I know it quite well and there is probably just enough to get your teeth into for a PuG crawl. However it's not in the same league as Stockport.
Brighton was definitely mentioned by someone during the Stockport do. Obviously an overnighter for me but probably not a problem with notice. March sounds good but not the first or last weekend, so that's 9th, 16th or 23rd. The South is next in line for a crawl I believe.
Coventry is the venue for CAMRA's national AGM in April and I suspect a few of us may be there to watch CAMRA implode (or not) so a PuG do could be elsewhere for the Midlands crawl. The Severn Valley Railway would be a good summer crawl and it counts as Midlands, but we have mentioned the cost of tickets what with it being a preserved line.
Hi we can do the 16th or 23rd March.
either / or - pick one so I can book it off!
Taking into account preferences and with no objections so far it seems Brighton on Friday 23rd March is the choice, agreed ?
I suspect you should get there before it becomes all cultural...
Damn - that's one of the few non-starter days for me. Shame really as I'd like to have done Brighton.
