I thought my BOTY was sure to come from this weeks trip to Leicester, and indeed it was goin to be London Fields Hackney Hopster very much enjoyed in the Salmon
But the event of prolonged snowfall made me give up on the idea of a trip to the Nags Headon Saturday so settled on my local The Waggon and Horses where to my delight ,and dread in equal measures put on http://darkstarbrewing.co.uk/pdf/six-hop-ale.pdf an extremely moreish but deadly brew at 6.5%, awesome and within the realms of the equally dangerous but a must drink,Greenhopped IPA.

Kentish Ales Gadds No5 winner this weeks winner but closely followed by the best pint of doom bar I've had in years at the Old Mitre Barnet.

A big week for me,lots of Oakham action but BOTW goes to Elixir Beer Co. Cuzzy Brew supped in The Salmon.The pump clip noted it as a 5.5% Black IPA.I never feel comfortable with the Black IPA description but I know it is correct from a brewers point of view.Anyway it was a very fine pint ,a real standout on the day.
In search of something interesting in The Rake next week,hopefully a BOTW.
The only beer I've had this week was on Friday :(.
The clear winner was Wentworth American Pale Ale by a long way, well done Swan & Rushes even though I lost miserably at Bar Billiards (700-0) :eek:.

Siren Broken Dream Stout 6.5%
The four contenders are the Gadd's 5, the Caramal Salt Brown, the Dopple Dunkel and the Broken Dream.
The Caramel Salt Brown is a strong brown ale with a hint of salt (I've always thought that Bateman's bitters had a "salty" taste).
The Siren Broken Dream is a strong stout not that different to Magic Rock's Dark Arts. This new brewer chose Brewdog as their launching pad but their cask beers seem to be perfectly good.
The Dopple Dunkle is a black wheat beer infused with chillis. I'm not a great fan of wheat beers generally, although I'm always happy to try a new one and this is one that I really liked a lot.
Gadd's no 5 on paper is the most boring one of the lot but it gets my vote! It's an orange coloured beer with a great combination of malt and lots of hop bitterness. Never mind the 3 pint test I think this one could have passed the 8 pint test as it was in superb form in the George at Wanstead at £2.29.
I couldn't find it on the Spoon's guest list so I'm not sure why the George had it on but I'm glad they did as I don't believe I've tried this brewer's beers before.

All the Oakham beers were very good as was the Beijing Black and Landlord. The Knighthood from Medieval Beers of Nottingham convinced me it was Greene King in disguise. Having checked their website, apparently not.
BOTW by a stretch was Blue Monkey Ape Ale. Everyone who tried this excellent IPA found it impossible to keep their consumption to less than 3 pints and most went over. A 100% pass on the 3 pint test.
Very quiet week for me, with just the four to choose from.
Oldershaw - Grantham Stout.
Oakham - Inferno.
Abbeydale - Absolution.
Dr Morton's - Bag O' Nails.
The stout was very good, but the Inferno was in tip top nick and impossible to resist.
