A tongue-in-cheek post taken from The White Swan in Aylesbury's Facebook page:
"Later today we will reveal our new 'Covid Fighting Substantial Meal Menus', but wish to apologise in advance for our dreadfully slow service during the course of your meal.
We appreciate slow service can be an annoying thing, but would remind all customers that these are trying times and the bar is open for drinks while you wait ;) (served at your table of course to ensure that pesky Covid can't get you because you are sat down).
Thank you in advance for understanding, as our single member of staff in the kitchen might take up to 2/3 hours to complete your orders.
Please note: due to our staff's inability to handle more than one order at a time, if you come at busy periods, such as weekends, your wait may be even longer ;)"
The menu includes 'Yoghurt of the Day' as a dessert...
This bloke has no chance of getting ill.

Completely. In smart restaurants, some people want an aperitif before ordering and in smart pubs, food can take an hour to arrive and service will be even slower if everyone has to order food, so I would expect customers to want a drink before their grub arrives. Then they can make for the door and the next pub. ;)
Yup. All pubs need do is buy a sandwich toaster for a cheep cheese toastie to keep drinkers happy. The police have said they don't know how to police this. If they see a person without food, they'll look a bit foolish if the response is that they've eaten their substantial meal at lunchtime and have now settled in for an all-day bender.
But apparently a Cornish pasty doesn't count. The scotch eggs at The https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/23350/ are enormous but I've had larger pasties...
But don't count in doing that in the same place again.
But see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55109932
Most publicans know exactly what the legislation means* and would rather keep their licence than indulge piss-takers. It is often a question in the personal licence exam.
*It's exactly the same rule as serving beer or cider to 16 or 17 year olds: they have to have a sit-down meal, not something you can eat standing up from a paper plate.
Apart from around a dozen of my locals, 99.9% of pubs I've reviewed will never see me again as I rarely travel far and if they do see me, it will be long after this is over and I doubt I'll go to a pub again until April when all this is scheduled to start to get back to normal, due to the delayed effect of any inoculation taking effect and I doubt any areas will go below Tier 2 unless it's on Dartmoor.
As far as leaving the pub when plumptious meal has been eaten, my guess is that this will allow more covers to dine, therefore putting more money into the pub trade's economy.
Shaun isn't a man to get on the wrong side of. However a fair point until you consider that it's not about public health it's Neo-Pro's having got their way with Government, mind you it could worse; in a word... WALES. Looks like the worst of chapel driven bigotry has had its way. :moremad::moremad::moremad:
(2) This sub-paragraph applies if alcohol is only served for consumption on the premises as part of a table meal, and the meal is such as might be expected to be served as breakfast, the main midday or main evening meal, or as a main course at such a meal.
So presumably a bowl of cornflakes will suffice for students who live off nothing else.
Given the calorie content it's probably easier to have three or four breakfasts (or breakfasses as people now say), each with two drinks ;) . Session sorted.
Somerset live doesn't know its coccyx from its humerus. It's the lowest common denominator when it comes to online journalism, placed marginally below Facebook for the accuracy of its reports or the quality of its journalism. I suspect their reporters do know that there are other pubs and that they're called Be At One or Harvester.

I know a bloke who just has to be better than everyone else. He's one of those people who, if you've been to Tenerife then he's been to Elevenerife, that kind of thing. I'm sure he's sitting on The Wirral hoping it goes into Tier 5.

Watch this space. In France, there's a 21.00 06.00 curfew. And if you do go out, you can't travel more than 1km from your home and if you do, you can't be out for more than one hour. And in order to do so, you have to fill out an attestation form, stating the reasons why you are out and what time you left home.
Not that it makes much difference, that was the old information and the new details are here: France curfew: FAQ on new attestation forms from December 15.

The force is good at preventing crime and tackling anti-social behaviour. But it needs to improve the way it investigates crime and how swiftly it brings offenders to justice. I am concerned that crimes are not always allocated to appropriately trained staff and that they are not investigated thoroughly enough or supervised effectively. The force also needs to improve how it protects vulnerable people. In particular, it needs to make sure that it responds to all reports of people at risk in a timely manner and works more closely with partners to ensure that such people are adequately safeguarded....My overall assessment is that, notwithstanding the notable improvements in SOC, the force’s performance has declined since last year.

I am disappointed that it doesn’t yet have the systems it needs to reassure the public it uses powers such as stop and search legitimately. It also needs greater capacity and capability to root out corruption.
No comment needed on GMP or PSNI this week.
Evening all.
"When we spoke to people who had travelled to drink here the vast majority were compliant and headed home. There was minimal disorder and thankfully only one Fixed Penalty Notice was required, where someone refused to wear a mask."
"Police are beginning to crack down on people leaving areas in higher tiers for neighbouring places with lower coronavirus restrictions, as officers in York issued what police described as a “shocking number of fines” to people from tier 3 areas visiting the tier 2 city over the weekend. North Yorkshire police said Covid marshals and officers visiting hospitality venues in York encountered “large numbers” of visitors from tier 3 areas and had processed 55 tickets to people in breach of their own tier regulations. They said more than 100 further tickets were still awaiting paperwork completion and processing."
