The Revelation was just that and after much praise on these pages didn't disappoint but BOTW was RCH Firebox. Malty and fruity and still very fresh but with kick like a mule. You'd never guess it was 6% - dangerous.
Another quiet week for me, only managing a couple of quick ones on a flying visit to Leeds. Tried this week:
Great Newsome - Frothingham Best
Great Newsome - Ploughman's Pride.
Elland - Northern Sky.
Salamander - Wormwood.
Goose Eye - Pommie's Revenge.
Fernandes - Oatmeal Stout.
Easy winner was the Stout, drunk in the sunshine, outside The Hop.
Certainly a lot of different beers slipped down in Liverpool,some good ,some not so.Also had a very enjoyable Sadlers Hop Bomb after watching a bit of school boy football (my son not The Palace !) but BOTW goes to George Wright's Mark's Mild my very last beer on the crawl in The Dispensary and worthy of a few of these:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Being in the South West I encounter alot of Doom Bar, Tribute and Trelawney style beers. Proper Job is as you have found it - a surprisingly pleasant grapefruity bronze 4.5% beer. I probably should have nominated it myself as BOTW a few times in the past but generally can't bring myself to do it!Quote:

The "Titanic Dark Star" at The Bridge End in Ruabon was so good it easily eclipsed the other six beers on tap (from hoppy golden through to stout [but no McGiverns ales Available]). Lots of great stuff to choose from this week thanks to the Liverpool trip.
Have to agree with oldboots about the Tetley's Porter - a most unexpectedly good pint. Also worth mentioning were Salopian Oracle, Liverpool Organic Best Bitter and Rat Black Rat Mild but the Hawkshead New Zealand Pale Ale in the Dispensary stole the show.
I must admit that I'd forgotten about the Hawkshead NZPA, till it got mentioned in dispatches. Mind you, my memory of Friday in Liverpool does seem to have a fair few gaps in it. Agree with Pubsignman on the Salopian Oracle. However, BOTW turned up on Sunday in the Euston Tap, where I was able to enjoy a Nogne Porter and, in particular, Marble Lagonda - I've managed to avoid that one up to now, unfortunately. If it's not on the good IPA list, it certainly ought to be.
It's there at the top PoH and still ranks as my Beer of the Century. I'm envious that you found some and delighted to hear it's as good as ever.Quote:

Even slower than usual in choosing this week.
A good selection of beer around Scouseland, but my BOTW is going to be Stringers Plan B tried in The Baum.
Light & hoppy and only 3.7%. A proper session beer. :cheers:
A real struggle to remember just what the good ones were in Liverpool! Ones that stood out were Thornbridge Frank As Apollo (Philharmonic), Bristol Beer Factory No 7 (Roscoe Head), Peerless Triple Hop (Bridewell), Rat Dirty Rat (Ship & Mitre), Liverpool Organic Johnny Handsome (Vernon Arms). Hard to pick but I'll go for the Thornbridge Frank As Apollo, probably because drinking it in such opulent surroundings gave it the egde over the others.
