That'll be from Victoria. Usually cheaper from Blackfriars or London Bridge, ~£18, and the trains are not as knackered as they used to be.
Without wanting to seem rude John, do you have a freedom pass? If so, book your travel from East Croydon, £15.80rtn (thameslink) or specific trains currently available at £5e/w.
I don't have a freedom pass till November but I get free travel to east Croydon. Will check.cheers
The fiver gets discounted with snr railcard but not with my network railcard (presumably on the basis of minimum fares on weekdays).
Got me thinking about the southern daysave though and, yes, it seems they are finally available online again after only being so from 'the other end' for a few years.
These are great if travelling in a group, £39 for 4 adults hop-on, hop-off, anywhere on southern network after 10am weekdays, anytime weekends. I followed the link to tickets and it actually came to £38 total.

As the good lady has not been to Brighton for many a year we have booked a hotel near the sea front for a bit of a stay before the Friday meet up..
So you can count me in for the "Crawl around the Lanes"
I'm all booked now as the advance fares are available now. I got £3.30 to Brighton from Victoria (Southern) and £8 back (Thameslink) with my old gits railcard.
Anyone returning via London on the Saturday needs to know there's a replacement bus service between Brighton and Three Bridges that weekend.
