This was my friend's reaction to Mr Gimlet's. er sorry ETA's closing remark in his review of this Dover micropub.
"Equally undrinkable" well done Will! at Idle Valley Retford, not convinced this is a destination over Leeds or Wakey, even at a fiver e/w?
All but one of the beers were Idle Valley, with weird names like Torpid Expression and Vacant Gesture. Imagination is to the fore in some of the beer styles, too. The landlord gave me a taste of the coconut flavoured Coconut Shy PA and the equally undrinkable Vacant Gesture, a blonde beer that uncannily recreates the taste of a 1970s lager and lime, and which I was assured sold six barrels a week. Torpid Expression is described as an eccentric bitter, but this seemed fairly ordinary to me.
Thanks for the appreciation, Jim. If you do stop off in Retford, you'd do better going to The Rum Runner or The Turks Head
A second opinion here finds one of Mr Bundy's reviews to be harsh but fair.
"We had the pleasure of sticking to the floor, whilst making our way to the bar on this visit", love it ,Real Ale Ray April 2015.
One of the harshest reviews I can ever remember reading from Al 10000 here. "The very grumpy landlady told my brother to sit at one of the tall tables and chairs near the entrance, I have never in all of my pub crawling been told what seat to sit at, I gave her hard stares whenever I could." He gave it a 3, which is like a negative score for any other reviewer - even the pubs with only John Smiths Smooth Crap tend to get a 6 from him.
