If you've not been to Nellie's before, please don't let my "disappointment" put you off. It's got to be experienced - and the beer was actually quite good.

Slightly disappointed that three out of five pubs, on a Reading crawl with a couple of mates last Friday, were still continuing with table service, given that these were boozers and not foody pubs I didn't see the point, didn't spoil the day overall but it could have been better IMO.
Yes. I've spotted this in a fair number of places. I wonder if perhaps managers want to reduce transmission so that they don't get pinged and have to close. But it doesn't make for a good experience, though I've visited all of these and am now concentrating on new pubs-only at the moment.
planning for a trip to Newcastle this week and a little surprised that almost none of the pubs around Ouseburn are allowing you to order at the bar and the Cumberland Arms still won’t let anyone sit inside? Not to worry, all seems to be (relatively) back to normal in the city centre so i’ll be spending my time there. Table service got very tiresome for me a long time ago and I’d rather drink in places that don’t treat you like children.
Yes that's exactly what we found in Ouseburn last week. We didn't bother staying for a drink at the Free Trade as you had to wait for a member of staff to escort you inside and there was only one beer on. More or less the same in the Tyne Bank, also you had to go out and around the back to get to the toilets upstairs.
Brinkburn Brewery Tap was the star of the show, none of these rules were in place, great beer at great prices. Highly recommended
Thanks for the info - was actually considering the Brinkburn for food and a few drinks so will definitely keep it in mind. Any idea if the Crown Posada is currently open, or planning to open? The Facebook page said it was waiting for the end of restrictions, but can't find any updates since.
Does the pub trade not realise that restrictions in this sector have been lifted? If they are going to be doing this now (and the mask crap), then presumably they'll be doing it ten years from now given that the plague is the new 'normal'.
I wish people would realise that basic domestic masks give little protection to the wearer. They are supposed to capture flob and snot to prevent it from flying about the place and being inhaled. So I wear a mask to protect others (not myself) and others wear a mask to protect me, not that I care, being vaccinated.
I refuse to go in any pub where there are still restrictions.
