Ok, well as there have been rather a lot of new members in recent weeks I'll just explain that I have been doing a monthly post to update users on how the site has been doing in the previous month in general. I usually aim to do it more quickly than the last working day of the month though!!

As I suggested last month (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?657-Friday-Stats-November-summary), December was the slowest month of the year with 103,000 visitors, very slightly up on December 2008. Christmas day managed just over 1,000 visitors and was the quietest day of the year.

During the month there were:-
2,556 photos of 725 different pubs
308 comments added
93 new pubs suggested

Since we are into a new year I'll take the opportunity to round up 2009:-
1.5 million visits to the site
55,802 photos of 14,160 different pubs
5,458 comments added
3,344 new pubs suggested
585 beer festivals listed

Just to add to this, the other thing is we are happy to try and answer any questions on stats or stats you would like to see as well.

It will be interesting to see how the figures change, hopefully positively, with the influx of new members.

Do you normally publish a monthly comparison of reviews etc to the same month in the previous year?

So far we have just posted raw numbers, and shoved in some interesting observations as we see them, will sort out the prior years stats now though, and continue to provide them in future stats updates.

Yes it should be particularly interesting when I look at the January figures as it has been quite an influx of active members.

Just looked at the December 2008 numbers though.

New pubs in 2009 were well down on 2008. Sticking the pub adding tool on the site led to 8407 being suggested in 2008

I guess new pubs being added would be in decline as the number of new [or non listed] pubs must diminish over time?

I keep on thinking that must happen, it doesn't feel like it does from this end though.

Certainly that dip is probably mostly to do with the listings gradually actually becoming correct. Looking at it I am surprised at how modest the reviews jump is, I suspect most of the reviews we received last year were informational posts about pubs being closed and the like.

As Conrad says we keep being surprised by just how many more pubs people are finding.

This month one of our users added another 100 around rural Shropshire - it frightens me that there might be that many or more missing in other counties!

I believe there are about 60,000 on-licenses in the UK but I don't know how many are on PuG. I do know I've still got a few thousand to visit.

52825 marked as open, but I would guess at the very least 10% of those are still not really addressed by members.

Looking at Google Earth I was surprised how many pubs there are along the Iron Bridge Gorge. I have never visited a fraction of them in my visits . Oh well, something to think about in the future.

Off the top of me head from the Kynersley Arms (as seen on Time Team) to the Woodbridge there are 21 pubs classed as being in the Gorge , the best ones are out of Ironbridge , the Black Swan and The Boat in Jackfield and the Shakespeare and The Brewery in Coalport , then of course just up from the Gorge is the All Nations and theres about a dozen in Brosley just up the hill ...... where did i put that bus timetable
