A central Whitby pub seems to have gone bump according to the local newspaper:

Always sad to see but it wouldn't have been high on my list of Whitby pubs looking at the comments in various places!

We had a meal booked at the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge one year, and we could not get past Castleton due to a 2 foot snow wall facing us on the road where the snow ploughs had cleared up to, so decided to go to the Dolphin instead. Wasn't too bad in the 70's.

Looks as though it's not the end of the road for the pub if they are putting a new landlord in, so things will hopefully improve for the pub. Is in a good position in Whitby. Thinking about it, there are no BAD positions in Whitby.

It was a basic pub for those of us that like real ale - but it seemed popular enough with those that enjoyed the keg stuff

Still closed when I was there over the October Half-Term holidays.

Several of the older pubs in Whitby had been 'done up' and were really quite nice. The Little Angel had been upgraded and the Ale range extended.

Hopefully, the Dolphin will be upgraded and re-opened.

I wonder how the Whitby pubs will react when Wetherspoons complete their several million pound refurb of the New Angel Hotel?
