I know the 'Leeds day out' thread is not long ago, but I'm looking for specfic input as to which of these I should incude:

Adelphi, Brewery Tap, Duck&Drake, Fox&Newt, Garden Gate (less central), Grove, Midnight Bell, Mr Foleys, North Bar, Scarborough Hotel, Templar Hotel, THT (gone per ROB's review), Victoria Hotel, Whitelocks.

Need to whittle that list down to, say, 7 must-do's plus 2 reserves (only in town for 7hrs). All local knowledge & suggestions welcome.
Thanks tm.

I would say Grove, Midnight Bell, Cross Keys, Hop, Brewery Tap. Then 10 minute walk to Mr Foleys, Veritas, Victoria Hotel.

Whitelocks and North Bar as reserves as they're a little further off this route.

We had about 7 hours as well and we did all the first 8 plus Wetherspoons, Garden Gate, Adelphi & Scarbrough.

Although it took an hour to get to and from Garden Gate and have a pint.

Hi 'tm'. My choices are slightly different to ROB's and I've chucked The Palace into the mix. Don't know how much you want to visit the Garden Gate, but for outstanding traditional interiors it's probably first choice along with The Victoria, Whitelocks and The Adelphi. In running order I'd go for:

1.The Grove
2. The Hop
3.The Adelphi
4. The Duck & Drake.
5.The Palace.
6.The Garden Gate.
7.Whitelocks.
8.Mr Foleys.
9.The Victoria
10.Veritas.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, I shall put them all on a map and decide which to stagger round.
Any venues with board for comedy darts along the way?

We'll be there Fri ~12:30-19:30. If anyone is in the vicinity & wants to hook up, drop me a pm for tel#.

Scarborough, Whitelocks, Mr Foley's, Victoria, Veritas, Grove, Cross Keys, (Midnight Bell?, can't remember!), Scarborough.
Jokers played in Grove, easily potd, also really liked Victoria. Didn't like Veritas at all - surprised it appeared on both lists chaps.
Grand day, but why the hell did i get a btl of red for the train home? Then Euston Tap!
And what are England doing just now? Awful!

Glad you had a grand day, sorry I couldn't make this one. Must say, I find it very hard to move on from The Grove sometimes! Regarding Veritas, it's each to their own, I guess. Still think it's pretty good for a modern bar. Beer quality and choice have been excellent whenever I've been in.

Andy I was probably being overly harsh on Veritas; in most circumstances I'd be happy to stumble across such a place with good beer & beer choice but, on reflection, maybe I should have substituted Adelphi (which I forgot about!). Wakefield end of November, where I'm deffo sticking to the a&h route!

you'd do right.

If you're there on saturday 26th I might join you somewhere up Westgate as I'm probably in Wakefield that afternoon/evening.

Hi ob, the East Coast offer was only weekdays, so it's actually Fri 25th...

Two meet ups in two days might be stretching things a bit, but it would be a shame to miss you 'ob' if you're coming over. We'll try and sort something out on the way to Nottingham.

Leeds again Jan13.
One of the party claims not to have been, so we'll probably be mostly confined to centre but, as the other 3 have done several visits, are there any recommendations for a couple 10-15 min train or bus ride out? Not the Garden Gate, beer was awful after a taxi ride there last time.
Cheers, tm

Chapel Allerton springs to mind as a reasonable destination, https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/chapel-allerton/west-yorkshire/ The Regent (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42896/) and Further North (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/70195/) are the best but the 'Spoons (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56337/) isn't bad and neither is The Woods (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54515/). No train but buses are frequent from the city centre, 2 and 3/3A or 36 take about 15 mins. The buses go past the neat group of bars at the top of Vicar Lane/New Briggate as well (North, Templar, Belgrave, Brewdog/Shuffle Dog, Reliance and Brunswick etc)

I am doing a Kirkstall Road crawl soon, https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/kirkstall/west-yorkshire/ the two best there are (in reverse order) the New George and the Kirkstall Bridge, the buses (33/33A, 97, or 508 or 757) back to the city centre go past the The Cardigan Arms (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42639/), a gin palace recently restored by Kirkstall brewery which I need to visit soon, it's also not far from Fox & Newt (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42711/) which is good in a studenty way and between the two is The Highland (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42755/) a more down to earth ex Tetley's pub and currently under threat. By the way don't get a train to Kirkstall Forge it's miles away from any pubs; the outbound buses stop round the corner from Leeds railway station in Wellington St.

Close to the station is the Holbeck collection, The Midnight Bell (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/63526/), The Cross Keys (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54342/) , Northern Monk Refectory (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/82506/) (How Much!!), and the semi-legendary The Grove Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42740/) plus a couple of Ossett pubs. All are easy to reach via the new southern exit by platform 17 but you've probably done them.

Shipley and Saltaire are about 10-15 mins on the train and there's plenty there, a day on its own is usually needed for those two places and I bet you've done them too.

First, the good news. United are playing away at Ipswich, on the 13th, so the town centre, whilst still busy, won't be unbearable.

Like 'oldboots' I'm very keen to visit The Cardigan Arms (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42639/), but it is quite isolated. The tie in to Kirkstall makes sense. According to Google maps, it's a mile between the CA and The New George (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42773/), so about a fifteen minute walk. However, The West End House (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42993/) and Kirkstall Bridge Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42846/) are then close by.

Other possibilities are a short walk beyond North Bar, over the ring road to The Reliance (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/65764/) and The Brunswick (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/83286/). Both are quite modern, but on a recent visit the beer quality and choices were good.

Headingley is only a ten minute bus ride out of the centre and has a glut of drinking establishments, the pick of which are Arcadia (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/65743/), The Head of Steam (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/75220/) and Woodies (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43014/).

Alternatively, it's possible to walk out towards the university and take in The Fenton (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42698/), The Eldon (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/71422/) and The Pack Horse (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/42861/). The Pack Horse is the furthest out, so you could catch a bus to Woodhouse Moor and then do them in reverse whilst walking back into town.

You really need to go to Whitelocks (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54017/) and write a review. Get your mates to write reviews too - we need to knock the recent effort by Ethelred off the front page!
