I'll be doing Brighton this Saturday - seeing the amount of pubs listed in the centre I can't bring myself to go through them all, so I'll ask you lot instead.

The Evening Star is, of course, a given :D as is the Basketmakers.

So what would be your picks?

The Prince Albert (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10351/) a bit quirky & handy for the station

I've always loved it in here Hand In Hand (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10454/) although it's 3 or 4 years since I've been.

This one used to be good as well The Pump House (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10536/) but I don't think it was a Nicholsons when we visited.

Not been to ROB's two, but Hondo's Prince Albert would be good if ale conditioning has improved - good pint last time i was in there, odd queues form outside at odd times of day. No worries, carry on down to Harveys owned Lord Nelson (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10484/), and further on to the slightly bohemian feel Great Eastern (http://http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10444/), usually 3 pumps, before turning through the back-doubles to Basketmakers (tho I wouldn't necessarily bother these post-Gales days). From there, if you wanted to widen your net, I'd be very interested in the current condition of Rose Hill tavern (http://http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10552/), for which I long for new managership/ownership &, en route, you could try the Mitre (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10498/). From here (Rose Hill) you can switch back, on foot (check shortcut map), to Lord Nelson, then station, above which the Battle of Trafalgar is most acceptable, if unspectacular. Towards the sea(!), my preference is usually only Lion & Lobster (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/10481/), just downhill from a good, if unfortunately named, Bankers' Chippy on western rd (eat in! the gulls fly in squadrons!).

... and I would ordinarily strongly recommend a 10min train to Fishersgate for the Stanley Arms (http://http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/53630/), but it was abandoned on cup final day for a below-par tm, pals, and yer man Strongers, jetted in from eastbourne(?).

Pub-wise, GBG has the following listed:

1. Basketmakers Arms BN1 4AD (11AM)
2. Constant Service, BN2 9SJ
3. Evening Star, BN13PB (11:30AM)
4. Greys, BN2 9UA
5. Hand in Hand, BN2 1JN
6. Lion & Lobster BN1 2PS (11AM)
7. Lord Nelson BN1 4ED (11:30AM)
8. Prestonville Arms BN1
9. Pump House BN1 1HH (10AM)
10. Sir Charles Napier BN2 9UE
11. Station BN1 5NG (11AM)
12. West Quay BN2 5UT (JDW)

Probably too many over the course of a day given a load are in BN2. I think targeting BN2 might be the way forward, with a couple at the Evening Star before the train!

Nah!

Yeah I thought you might say that. Well I'll rely on Gavin to tell us whether it's a worthwhile task. Sometimes a different postcode is only a few mins walk but othertimes it's a 45 minute yomp away from the centre. Maybe we can bus it...

EDIT - The JDW (12) is too far away from the others in BN2, it's part of some out-of-town leisure complex! The others (hills permitting) look do-able.

EDIT#2 - The Station is too far out as well, it's by Preston Park!

Random pub on main screen was the Victory Inn that has got a very favourable review from Mr Bonser.

I've been to a few Brighton pubs and my favourite was the Basketmakers, being a fullers fan.

We did most of those when staying in Brighton and its worth the trip out to Lewes as well.

Prestonville Arms had a great sign over the gents loos. Used beer department.

I ended up getting a t-shirt for completing 20 of the pubs on their 007 trail. We had done a few without realising there was a trail, so got through a load of the pubs on our last day to qualify. Hand in Hand is the brewpub.

Our list was aiming for GBG pubs in 2007 plus a few others of character. Too many for a day but may be of use to anyone spending longer. We had a great time.

Basketmakers Arms.

Excellent day out - no time for a run down at present, maybe tomorrow. For now, here's some photos.
