A very quiet week with just option but a very worthy one. BOTW is Oakham Bishops Farewell.

A few pints on a tour of Worcester with Quinno and his mates yesterday

Jennings - Tizie Wizie
Hobsons - Twisted Spire
Bankss - Mild
St Georges - Keep Calm and Carry On
Little Ale Cart - Yorkshire Ale
Millstone - Vale Mill
Blue Ball - California Common
Wye Valley - Ginger Pride
Haifstein(?) - Dunkel

Beer of the week however is going to be Taton - Taton Ale as sampled on an all to brief visit to the Bhutphore Inn , the sort of pub that deserves at least a couple of hours with 11 ales on

A few this week.

Warrington Wetherspoons, well there is now 2 of them, the one nearest the station was doing a nice Jabberwocky, a refreshing and clean beer. A bit too malty for me though. I popped along to the other one, whose name I can rememeber, the Friar Penketh. There I had a Thwaites Wainwright, which was light, hoppy, fresh and refreshing as usual. I then nipped to the Barlow Mow which provided an utterly dreadful Worthingtons. Later in Port St Beer House I had three excellent brews. One a nice but bot boring pale, Best Bitter from Cains. I then moved on to interesting beers. A Jaipur on keg was attempted but surprisingly wasn't that good. Better on cask. However, the Hardcore IPA was utterly amazing. Full of flavour, and so hoppy. You'd never get a beer like this on cask. Later in North Bar Leeds I had a 4% beer whose name I can't remember, but it was boring too.

As a result, the most memorable beer of the weekend and tastiest was the Hardcore IPA by Brewdog. They really do some good beers in all sorts of containers.

I hadn't seen this anywhere until about 8 months ago when it appeared in Veritas, Leeds. Now I see it everywhere. I even had a pint of it out of a plastic container in Manchester the morning of the FA Cup Final and it tasted good despite the plastic. They must be pushing it. Previously I'd see "Thwaites" and think Boring Brown Beer.

Beer of the Week is going to be Palace Ale - a new beer brewed by celebrity Crystal Palace fan and real ale advocate Neil Morrissey, as part of a drive to introduce a real ale policy at Selhurst Park. I tried a pint at the Cricketers and thought it was a very good, hoppy session beer with a real bite to it.

There was stiff competition this week in the shape of Bateman's Salem Porter, Dorking Single Hop Gold and the outstanding Palmer's Tally Ho.

Quite a low volume of ale this week.

Mallinsons Huddersfield Pale Ale & Cottage Stanier 5 were very good in The Baum.

But the winner by a street length is Milestone Colonial Stout tried in the Regal Moon, 6%, black and very smooth. So good I had to have 2 despite the ABV.

A spontaneous meet up with 'oldboots' yesterday afternoon, for the 'Farewell to Tetleys' event at The Midnight Bell, Leeds, was a bit of a damp squib, but we enjoyed a fantastic mini crawl around the Holbeck area. I added a couple on the way home and notched up a twenty four beer session! A personal best. It's fair to say I was a bit fuzzy round the edges this morning. Tried:

Titanic - Centenary.
Vale - Black Beauty Porter.
Leeds - Quality Pays.
Tetley - MILD.
Ansells - MILD.
Leeds - Yorkshire Gold.
Tetley - Midsummer Madness.
Liverpool Organic - Old Porter.
Roosters - Leghorn.
Slaters - Top Totty.
Goose Eye - Bitter.
Salamander - Annual MILD.
Salamander - After Dark.
Salamander - Golden Salamander.
Moorhouses - Black Panther.
Ilkley - Mary Jane.
Junction - Trainspotter.
Ilkley - Black Summit IPA.
Acorn - Darkness.
Five Towns - Crisis What Crisis.
Ossett - Millbridge MILD.
Milestone - Sup-Porter.
Fernandes - Centennial.
Fernandes -Ale to the Tsar.

There are half a dozen in there that could win on a quiet week, but the two that stood out yesterday were the Liverpool Organic Porter and the Roosters. very close, but the Roosters 'Leghorn just shades it.

A beer disaster week for me. Just 1 pint in 1 pub was all I could muster and that was just to avoid the rain at lunchtime. It wasn't even an enjoyable beer - White Horse Saracens IPA. I had solitary tin of Tuborg yesterday at a music festival but my salvation for the BotW thread comes by way of a couple of bottles that I picked up in Sainsburys, St Austell Tribute and Holts Humdinger, the latter being an extremely worthy winner and my first ever bottled BotW. Hopefully this week should throw up a few more opportunities.

BOTW goes to Titanic Anchor well kept in The Littleton Arms,Penkridge. The pint looked like a standard beer in terms of colour, but had that wonderful Titanic sharp bitter bite making a very well rounded 4% ABV drink .

I came across this brew on cask in The Bree Louise,Euston last year.Agreed it tasted great ,but the 9.2% ABV limited my consumption:nishelypished:

.. part of a drive to introduce a real ale policy at Selhurst Park.

Sadly on match days the only ale option is "bright" Sambrooks Wandle at £3.50 per pint,so I am ashamed to admit that I still drink in The George ,Croydon .However there was an end of season beer festival at Selhurst on Cup Final Day and this did have an interesting list of beers,no reports about the quality .Still a long way to go to reach the heights of the Leyton Orient Supporters Club .

According to the last line of this article you'll have Palace Ale on as a regular next season - hopefully at less than £3.50 a pint.

Not sure whether you mean availability or taste, but I'd argue the toss on both counts. BrewDog were a featured brewer in Ossett pubs earlier in the year. Edge, Trashy Blonde, Punk IPA and Hardcore IPA were all on hand pump at the Fernandes Tap. To be honest I found the Hardcore overly alcoholic. I've nothing against strong beer as long as the alcohol is 'integrated'. To me it just seemed to sit on top of the beer. Not my favourite.

I certainly enjoyed my Titanic Centenary yesterday. I think it's a great brewery and I've not had a duff beer from them yet.

Well said a&h ,they seem capable of brewing across a wide range of styles and like you I cant recall a poor one over recent times. They have been around for many years and I seem to recall quality issues in the early 90's,but that may have been under different ownership/head brewer.Their tied houses are none too shabby either.

Anything over 6% IMO is better on Keg. Anything over 6% seems to turn to vinegar very quickly when from cask, no matter the original quality of the brew. You'd probably have to catch it very early.

I've had Thornbridge's Jaipur and Kipling on keg recently and they were disappointing. They just lose something on the nose when fizzy.

What I found remarkable about the Hardcore IPA was that my taste buds were satisfied before I'd even got to the liquid - the froth was tasty enough. Never experienced that before.

The Tetleys at the Midnight Bell and at the Templar was excellent and Leeds Brewery's Quality Pays, their 5.3% homage to Tetleys was pretty good, A&H refered to it as "Tetleys with attitude". BOTW for me though was A&Hs runner up Liverpool Organic Old Porter (I didn't have the Leghorn).
